40th birthday of McLaren
On May 28, it will be four decades since McLaren made its Formula One debut at the 1966 Monaco GP. When the Team McLaren Mercedes race transporters travel to Monaco from the UK in the penultimate week of May, they will be recreating a journey that changed the course of motor racing history.
Forty years ago, 3 mechanics made the same pilgrimage, headed for the 1966 Monaco Grand Prix. Behind their single, heavily laden station wagon they towed the M2B, McLaren’s very first Formula One car, ready to make its debut in motor racing’s premier class.
