Penalty for Alonso, new strategy for Renault

By on

Following a manœuvre that was deemed dangerous by the stewards, the Spaniard was penalised yesterday evening. Fernando Alonso will have a tricky job on his hands today. After demonstrating his displeasure with Robert Doornbos, who had held him up yesterday during second practice, the Spaniard was called to see the stewards. Yesterday evening, they deemed the manoeuvre to have been dangerous and decided to penalise Fernando by adding a second to his times in Qualifying 1, 2 and 3.

The stewards also noted that Fernando had overtaken under yellow flags at the end of ht session, and decided to penalise him an additional second for this offence.

The Renault F1 Team driver will therefore suffer a two-second penalty this afternoon. It will have a definite impact on Renault’s race, and the engineers are currently analysing the best strategy to limit the damage of this low starting position.
