I'm not too worried - Alonso

By on

Although he only finished P12 in Friday’s practice, Fernando Alonso expects a better performance on Saturday during the qualifying session. The reigning World Champion expects a good quali and isn't afraid of Schumacher's pace.

Fernando, how did your day go?

"Pretty well. We ran through our technical programme, and we collected useful information. Our final position doesn’t look so good, but we had problems with graining on the front tyres. I think we can limit that on Saturday by using the other type of tyre we have available. The information collected by the Michelin third drivers suggested we were not on the right tyre today."

Michael Schumacher looked more competitive…

"His tyres seemed very consistent. He was lapping in the 1’29s quite regularly."

Is that a worry for the rest of the weekend? "I don’t think so. We will be adjusting the set-up before the third session. And we will run with the same fuel loads as our rivals. Finally, we will have the other type of tyre. So everything’s still possible. We just need to work hard on adapting the car to the circuit. We lost some time today in that area because of the tyre problems."

What are your ambitions for the weekend?

"Firstly, I want to fight for pole. We know we should have won in Hungary, which showed that the car is still very competitive. Michael has won three races recently, but I think the wind may be changing. I know that at some point, I will have the opportunity to build my lead back up again. It’s my turn for a win!"
