Fantastic for the team - Fisichella

Giancarlo Fisichella lost a close friend this week – and climbed onto the podium after a psychologically demanding race. Fisichella started the Japanese Grand Prix from 6th position and was able to finish 3rd after a very strong drive.

Giancarlo, it seemed a tough race today…

"It’s true. I lost a very close friend a few days ago, so it was not easy to race today. That’s why I was so emotional on the podium."

How did your race go?

"I didn’t get a great start because I was on the dirty side of the grid, and I lost a place to Button. But the balance of the car was good, I managed to overtake the Honda, and then caught the Toyotas. My second stop helped me get ahead, and I finished on the podium."

No problems then?

"Yes. I lost the radio for the first half of the race, and I couldn’t follow what was going on. I was relying on the pit board, but we managed to correct the problem during the first stop."

So it was an easy end to the race?

"Yes. We turned the engine down, the balance was good, and we just needed to make it to the finish. I am really pleased for the whole team with this result, because it’s gives us some breathing space to Ferrari in both championships."
