The Renault F1 Team’s Finnish star, Heikki Kovalainenen, turned 25 yesterday. Heikki hopes that his birthday isn't the only thing to celebrate this weekend as both Alonso and Renault can collect the championship.
"It’s true! Hopefully it means we can have a really big party on Sunday!!"
How is the mood in the team today?"Really good. I think everybody is very motivated and very focused. We have the chance to win two world titles, and a good chance at that. But we are taking nothing for granted, and we will be attacking. There’s no question of changing how we work or our approach. A driver makes many fewer mistakes when he is fighting and pushing to the limit: Fernando is determined to fight for the win. He is the kind of guy who can handle the pressure."
You are watching the battle from the sidelines. Is it useful experience?"Yes, very much so. Since China, I have been staying until Sunday at the races, compared to Saturday in Europe. I am learning a lot from what is happening at the moment. I am seeing how the team prepares, how Fernando and Fisico react. It’s a rare opportunity, which will help me. Hopefully I can be in the same situation next year!"
