The ING Renault F1 Team’s Italian driver, Giancarlo Fisichella, reckons he got the very best out of his car in today’s qualifying session. The Roman will start tomorrow's Bahrain Grand Prix from 7th position.
"Today, the team is pretty happy. We know our capacities and seventh place is the best we could have hoped for given the situation. At present, it’s so difficult to break into the top ten, as the performances are so close. But it’s not enough. At the start of the season the aim was to fight for pole. We’ve got to continue working: things can only get better. I know we’re going to make a step forward but I don’t know when. The first part of the year’s going to be tough: that’s for sure."
What are your ambitions for the race?"The car’s the same as last week’s one, but that’s normal as there was only a week between Malaysia and Bahrain. Nonetheless, I think we’ve found a good balance for the race here and the performance seems to be consistent. The aim is to score points again."
Is it not discouraging not to be able to fight for victory?"I’m disappointed, of course, as I thought I was going to be fighting for the championship this year. In fact, we’ve had to downgrade our ambitions for these races, and now all we want to do is to score points. It’s important that I continue to do my very best – indispensable even. I did it in Melbourne and in Malaysia, and I’ll do it again tomorrow."
