Another step forward - Fisico

The ING Renault F1 Team‘s Italian driver, Giancarlo Fisichella talks about his day and the two free practice sessions. Fisichella got his first experience with the new floor and revised rear suspension and believes the new part on the R27 are another step forward.

Giancarlo, how did the first two sessions go?

"Well. We completed our programme, evaluated the tyres and did some set-up work. I’m satisfied with what we’ve done and with the car’s handling."

So you’re feeling positive...

"Absolutely. Knowing that everybody was working on different programmes and that additional fuel can be very costly at Magny-Cours, I’m pretty happy. We’re on the same level as the BMWs, maybe even a bit quicker. It’s a good starting point."

There were a lot of off-course excursions this afternoon, was the track slippery?

"Not really. The opposite in fact, it was much grippier than usual, as it’s been resurfaced. The only problem was the wind; it upset the car’s handling in some sectors."

It’s your first experience of the new floor and revised rear suspension...

"It’s true. I didn’t test these new parts and I have to say that they’re another step forward. They give more grip and consistency, the two areas where the R27 can still be improved."
