Still work on the set-up - Kovalainen

The Finnish ING Renault F1 Team's rookie driver, Heikki Kovalainen, reckons that his overall classification on Friday is of no importance. Kovalainen is optimistic for Renault's home Grand Prix at Magny-Cours.

Heikki, seen from the outside, your result today looks a bit worrying...

"In fact, we worked without paying any attention to the others, and we didn’t play around with the amount of fuel on board like some teams. And my flying lap wasn’t all that great; I made a few mistakes and ran into some traffic. So I’m not worried."

Are you feeling optimistic for the rest of the weekend?

"Yes, I am. The car’s handling is stable. We’ve still got work to do on the set-up, and we have to improve a few things as I’m not totally satisfied with the balance, but we’re on the right track."

What were the track conditions like?

"I found that the grip was pretty good for the first day. The surface is new and that could be an important factor in the race. That’s why we did a particularly meticulous tyre comparison. "
