I have to thank the squads in Hinwil and Munich - Kubica
Robert Kubica is convinced that he hadn't been able to fight for podium finishes right from the start of his Formula One career hadn't the team done such a good job. Following the Hungarian GP, Robert Kubica now has got exactly one year of experience as Grand Prix driver under his belt.
The successes achieved in this period of time are impressive: in the 16 Grands Prix contested during the course of this year, the Pole scored a total of 34 World Championship points and in his only third race, the 2006 Italian GP at Monza, he made it to the podium. Currently, Robert holds sixth position in the Driver's Championship, right behind his team-mate, Nick Heidfeld.
"I had expected to quickly have the chance of fighting for podium finishes," reveals Kubica. "Last year I secured a podium finish in my only third race. Then, I did so at a low-downforce track, at Monza, where our car was performing much better. This year, we realised as soon as during the first tests, held in January, that our car had a lot of potential."
Robert praises the constant enhancement of the BMW Sauber F1.07 and underlines that he is of the opinion that the work of the team was particularly vital: "I think I have to thank the squads in Hinwil and Munich for their hard work while designing and enhancing the car."
