Good job in qualifying - Taffin
Heikki Kovalainen's engineer, Remi Taffin, was quite pleased yesterday and explained us how the qualifying went for the team. The Finnish Renault F1 Team driver will start from 7th position on the Turkish grid.
"Qualifying went off pretty well overall. Almost perfectly, in fact, even it that sounds a bit strange as we finished seventh and tenth! Heikki did a superb job and he finished seventh behind what I suppose you can now call the top three teams. But we’re not that far behind."
What about Giancarlo’s session?"Fisi did a good P1, a good P2 and finally he finished tenth, a bit further back than his team-mate. Honestly, we always try to find out what happens when there are gaps like that; it’s quite big. I think we’ll be able to do something tomorrow. So qualifying went off without problems and we got through our programme. Fortunately, as the English say, we didn’t have too bad a result."
Do you think you’re in your rightful place after qualifying?"We’re not like some squads which need only one run to qualify. We’re the fourth team and out aim is to do battle with BMW. But from time to time one of the Red Bulls or the Toyotas manages to reach our level in qualifying. Once the two dominant teams have qualified, there are only six places left for P3 and it gets a little complicated. But we did it today!"
Your direct rival is still BMW. Where do you stand in relation to them?"If you look at the P2 times, we were not too far behind BMW, but there’s more than a tenth in it. We still lack a little pace. In P3, we were again three or four tenths slower. We’ll see tomorrow. It’s always the same; are they going to stop on lap 10 or lap 20? Well, of course I’m joking but if we’re on the same strategy it’ll be a good race. We should be able to use the start to our advantage. Honestly, I can’t wait for tomorrow to come!"
