There are 21 drivers I want to beat - Kubica
BMW Sauber F1 Team driver Robert Kubica is one of the hopeful young Formula One drivers that currently attract the attention of both motor-racing enthusiasts and experts. Still, the 23-year old Pole doesn't want to be compared with his contemporaries also racing at the pinnacle of motor racing. He prefers to fully focus on the performances he wants to deliver in the coming season.
Apart from Robert, newcomers Lewis Hamilton (McLaren) and Sebastian Vettel (Toro Rosso) are the representatives of the new driver generation that caused the biggest stir, in the recent past. Robert, however, stresses: "I just don't compare with them. There are 21 drivers on the grid and I want to beat everybody. Yes, it's true: a new generation is on its way. And each of them deserves to race in Formula One. After all, they wouldn't be here if they hadn't the necessary skills. Last year, Lewis demonstrated that it's possible to impress even without a lot of experience under your belt."
Kubica also delivered outstanding performances, last year, by securing - inter alia - three fourth as well as four fifth places and finishing sixth in the Drivers' Championship. Now, the 2008 season is supposed to bring the next step forward. The clearly defined goal: to secure the first Grand Prix win as well as more podium finishes. Robert is confident that the BMW Sauber F1 Team will be able to realise this goal. "I'm very optimistic," he says. "I, for one, will give my very best to secure the best possible results for the team."
