As official test and reserve driver, Christian Klien has also contributed to the current success of the BMW Sauber F1 Team. The Austrian is delighted by the "sensational result" at the Malaysian Grand Prix.

Christian Klien is there every time Nick Heidfeld and Robert Kubica fight for World Championship points for the BMW Sauber F1 Team on race weekends. He is ready, should he have to step in at short notice to replace one of the two drivers. At the same time, he is learning more about the team, and follows the set-up work on the BMW Sauber F1.08 very closely.

The 25-year-old is impressed by what he saw in Malaysia. Upon seeing Robert and Nick pick up eleven points, Klien said: "It is a sensational result for the team, to stand on the podium at its home race in Malaysia. Robert really drove a fantastic race. At the moment, we are second in the Constructors' Championship, which is a great performance. It shows that all the hard work over the winter has paid off."

The team was able to improve the competitiveness of the F1.08 with every test drive during the pre-season. The most impressive proof of this increase in performance was given by Nick on the penultimate lap of the Malaysian Grand Prix, when he clocked the fastest lap time of the race. "That shows that we have the necessary speed," Christian analyses. "To get the fastest lap ahead of Ferrari was certainly not something we had reckoned with."
