Performance-wise Ferrari still have an advantage - Theissen
BMW Motorsport Director, Mario Theissen, is convinced that the BMW Sauber Formula One Team will be able to continue reducing the gap to reigning World Champions Ferrari during the course of the season.
In the current season, the BMW Sauber F1 Team has already secured three podium finishes. Both Nick and Robert have came close to giving the Munich and Hinwil based squad its maiden Grand Prix win. However, both have had to settle for finishing runner-up, so far.
"Performance-wise Ferrari still have an advantage," admits Theissen. "While we were as competitive as McLaren in the last two races. It's difficult to assess our gap to Ferrari exactly as I'm not sure that they have put all their cards on the table. But we certainly will reduce their lead."
Theissen is convinced that the team will be able to realise its self-set goal: the maiden Grand Prix win. "Ferrari also needs a good day for winning a race. And I hope that we will be there to succeed when they will encounter one of their not so good days."
At the same time, the BMW Sauber F1 Team is laying the basis for further optimism: with meticulous development work, reveals Theissen. "We've got several improvements for the entire season in the pipeline," he adds. "And if these upgrades work as well as those we've already introduced, we should be looking good."
