Hockenheimring expects deficit of €3 million
Formula One returns to the Hockenheimring this weekend after an absence of a year. But for the hosts of the Grand Prix, the race means a risk. According to 'Auto Motor und Sport', the organisers expect a deficit of no less than three million euros.
It appears that the golden F1 age for Germany is over. There are no longer 2 races on German soil on the calendar and the epoch of seven times World Champion Michael Schumacher is over.
You must also take in account that 2 years ago, when both Nurburgring and Hockenheimring were on the calendar, Spa-Francorschamps didn't host an F1 race. Many Belgian and Dutch fans therefore came to Germany to attend one of the two races.
If you keep all of this in mind, nobody will be surprised that Hockenheimring is expecting such a high deficit, especially not with the high prices they have to pay to Bernie Ecclestone.
