You should know better than to say Hamilton was gaining 7 or 8 tenths up the hill. His closest out of the final corner was 7 tenths I think on the exit. He never once got close enough to pass Max in to turn 1. He was gaining half a second at best with the tow and DRS.
Max had to close the inside line several times into turn 1. It was what gave Hamilton the shot at turn 5 as 2 3 and 4 are then compromised. Hamilton breezed passed everyone bar the bulls and in the end had more than enough for them too.
several times Max covered the inside in to turn 1 for no reason, Lewis wasn't close enough. This is what gave Lewis a better run through 2 and 3 to pass in to 4. Not sure why Max was taking the tighter line when he didn't need to, or was he worried about Lewis making a dive bomb lunge in to turn 1?
Fear..
But also he likes to take the inside so he can push drivers off the track. If he is on the outside he would lose the upper hand of having control of the corner. But he did it too early IMO.
What I found hilarious is Perez cry for help for Max to give him DRS. It could have worked. But Max scampered off even more. He was having none of it.
