Slightly disappointed that they didn't stick it to the FIA, but I think they actually did stick it to them - don't work with us and all hell breaks loose, and we'll burn the house down for all we care (not in FIA's best interest). Or, work with us and fix this once and for all. Masi is out I believe, and good riddance. I believe they really will hold the FIA accountable and if the result is not to their liking, they'll pursue litigation anyway.
Let's hope Merc did actually sacrifice some of this year for next year and I can see Lewis win his 8th title regardless of what happened this year, which would be the ultimate revenge.
That's it for me until testing. Happy Holidays and a Happy New Year all.
I think that is fair comment.
I think that both drivers have driven brilliantly all year.
Both have made mistakes and had drives that were less than stellar.
Max deserves reward for the drives but I do think that what has happened now indicates that the FIA will accept that the decision by Masi was flawed. We dont know the back story so maybe he was 'acting under orders from above'. On that basis he will be the sacrificial beast and needs to find a new job.
Hamilton will get his 8th title in 2022 if Mercedes havent wasted their efforts this year.
Max will get his next titles in future years.
The F1 sport will hopefully get a new rule book with less dubious or rigid rules but the whole issue of overtaking and use of the run-off areas needs some really serious thought.
Bringing in penalties for 'aggressive driving' will be contentious. Late braking and managing the corner is OK.
Late braking and causing a crash should be heavily penalised by maybe a 1 or 2 race exclusion. That really makes the driver consider before doing it. This really needs to be seriously considered as we need to get rid of the bumper car mentality. If you want to do that then go to a different formula!
