McLaren MCL36

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

from the video, it really is not easy to extract a lot from the pics they released and video material

Looks like a sensor pack "saddle" over the nose.
If you are more fortunate than others, build a larger table not a taller fence.

Why do all the 2022 cars feature an angled/rounded cockpit?
Because sidepods are much further forward for aero reasons. They are much more visible in the tcam for that reason.
I don't believe you've understood the question because I am also keen to know the answer and it's nothing to do with sidepods.

The bulkhead where the windscreen sits, ahead of the steering wheel. Used to be squared off, now seems to be rounded on 22 cars. Anyone know the reason/is it forced by rules for some reason?!

One thing i noticed and it was from the onboard is the engine seems to Rev higher in the lower gears it’s hard to make out due to the sound quality but if you listen closely you can definitely hear

Interesting rear wing..

Interesting in what way ?
I accidentally posted that post in the team thread thinking it was a car thread. On some photos, due to glare, the play of light and shadow, low resolution, the wing seemed to me double with several planes at the bottom :D

Compared to the HAAS or Ferrari the cleanliness of the front suspension is night and day

agree, by the looks of it, this should provide a lot of clean air for a very "clean" car, seems they targeted a good basic platform to build from

Really apparent how thick the t-tray is here, what could be the theory behind this?

Maybe they are hiding something under a cover from the other teams?

It’s almost identical to the Ferraris but upside down. You can see in the dark lower area almost the same layout Ferrari are running, but in reverse. Perhaps a bit less separated from suspension member. Cleaner air higher up or lower down? What’s good? Idk

Well no, it isn't, Ferrari's steering arm is lower than the upper wishbone while McLaren has the steering arms at the same height and flush with the lower wishbone

*Edit* maybe not "flush" but a lot closer to the wishbone than the Ferrari

Re: McLaren MCL36

Was i ever so wrong in fearing all teams cars would look alike. I stand corrected, this is a most diverse number of designs in decades, and im happy it is so. Now, i have been a McLaren fan for 25+ years and i believe this car may very well be yet another step up the ladder. With that said, Mercedes looks stupidly condensed and Ferarri is intruiging. I do not think that Red Bull will fail to impress when they present the real car, hopefully tomorrow then.

Last years season was remarkable, best i have seen. Yes, the last race was questionable, who ever you were rooting for. So looking forward to the next, even just comparing the laptimes in testing, while im very much aware that this doesnt tell much about how the teams compare with one other... 🏎
