"Max was 16kph down" Where did you get this?
From that tweet that I posted above, it shows speed and sector times
Thats the mean kph of the sector, doesn't tell us anything
It tells us that Max wasn't using as much speed as Charles in that sector, Tsunoda was 299, Leclerc 301, Verstappen 285

Max was 16kph down on Leclerc in sector 2 and on harder tyres for the 80 laps

Looking at race lap times in 2021, they may have been concentrating on tyre performance as they had cameras and sensors on the car. If Max kept these times up, he would have been matching 2021 performance on race trim

Oh I see. That's the speeds at intermediate II which is just before T10.

It’s said every year, but testing times mean very little, as much as we want to read into it.

Of the few racing programs I’ve been involved in, you NEVER show your cards in a test and don’t until qualifying. There are a lot of other things you need the test for.

We have no idea about engine settings and fuel loads though!

There's an 8 second gap between a car at its fastest, and race trim with a full tank of fuel and hard tires. You can't read too much into it, since the cars are operating within 30-60% of their true pace. That's just at this moment, the rate of development means whatever you see here is what the basic test car is capable of. Image

Testing is just that, testing. Correlating data between track and factory, checking systems, running PU's in different modes, tyre work, different aero solutions and so on. We won't really know where the teams are until Qualifying and how things shake out in the race.

The more interesting thing about this season for me at least, is how well the cars are able to overtake each other. No point having a quick car if it turns out it's not as good as overtaking as the other cars. Just something to ponder ahead of the first race.

Do the teams have full GPS traces for all the cars during this test? The motorsport.com ticker mentioned that Russell was lifting off before the line - that would only make sense if there was only sector timing.

Pretty good side on comparison photo

Ferrari has the most legible driver number on the shark fin. Some of them are barely readable!

Is Autosport talking about the pitot tubes? It's worded like they are talking about some kind of magical tape.
09:17 Here's a look at the pressure tappings on the Mercedes, as the team checks the airflow distribution in the airbox and on the rear wing:

Pressure tappings. Like a tap, not tape ;)

Might be an UK English thing vs American English, terminology. Or they’re just trying to sound sophisticated.

I assume it's more the writer not knowing the proper terminology.

I'm calling it now: the pecking order won't change too much from last year.
Some teams put more time and effort into this year's car than others, some had more wind tunnel and CFD time, but the knowledge of what makes a car fast won't magically change with a new set of regulations and we can clearly see that the fastest teams from last year have the more refined design for this season.

So yeah, there won't be too many surprises.
