Wonder is there needs to be some structural things in place to prevent the rear of the car separating like that. Difficult after an accident like that but it could be dangerous to a unaware Marshall.

EDIT: actually it's safer that the rear end breaks away easier from the rest as it helps dissapate energy away from the driver. All for it then 👍

I for one am entirely happy with the cars being 50kg heavier to not kill drivers in crashes like these.
Which part of the car got those 50kg? Also aditional 50kg means that cars slam with more force due to being heavier. The real question is what is the ratio between this two factors.
Safety cell is the majority of weight increase, then wheels. It sure is a balance, do you think FIA didn't run the math on that?
About:

+20kg tub reinforcement and larger minimum tub dimension
+20kg for 18" wheels, tyres, wheel covers & wheelbrows altogether
? kg for the larger brakes
+1kg power unit weight increase

Guess you couldnt run a reserve driver due to the 107% rule?

I think they are designed to separate nowadays, after Grosjeans shunt.

That wall Mick hit needs to be angled more oblique for saftery methinks.

If Mick is OK he should be able to race.

Would a reserve driver be allowed to race if the car was fixed but Mick wasnt feeling good to race?
No. A reserve has to make it to quali or fp3 iirc at the latest. Certainly won't be allowed to race unless they make it into quali.

Reserve driver needs to have participated in, at least, 1 FP session if I'm not wrong

I don't think it would be worth building up a spare tub. Schumacher is most likely not going to race. Who are they going to get to drive with no experience in the car? Only logical driver would be Nikolaus Meisterspinnen?

if the rules didn't change (I didn't check) last chance to change a driver is before Qualifying, like Massa/di Resta in Hungary 2017.

Rules out a reserve then.

Of course, Mick being OK is priority.

Yup, just heard about they made a change so that the rear separates under lower loads to help protect the driver and keep the impact energy away from them.
