It was very bad today.

I believe Mercedes will finish P2 in constructor, the goal is that ALO can still be ahead them and do podiums.

What other races will have those awful tyres?
Think you have to look for front limited tracks.....Silverstone will probably be the next one.
The last time Merc had the legs on amr was Australia, the previous front limited track.

Canada should be pretty good for AMR. Lot of emphasis on traction
Fornt limited => basically means lack of front end grip.

They did bring new FW to barcelona but not sure if it was to generate more front end or for other purposes. If yes, then its problem as update looks like didn't perform well in race.If not, then we have to see if they get any front end updates to Silverstone.

This race had the C1-C3 tyre selection.

I think we can't draw huge conclusions from just the compound, as Bahrain was also C1-C3 and that was a good race for AMR relative to other teams.

However races such as Silverstone, Zandvoort, Suzuka are those left on the calendar which will use the harder tyre ranges. It's possible 1 of those such as Silverstone may even go a step harder to c0-c2 tyres.
Oh no please not C0…they’ll also introduce their new harder construction tire! High deg races are great…they’re not anything like 2011-2013 where the tires dropped off dramatically!

Now the tires just have better performance when new but that doesn’t mean that drivers on used tires can’t even race like back then! So I think pirelli should always go a step softer to produce better races…

Graining of the rear tires is reported. This would be why Alonso and Stroll were so slow at the start.
Oh yeah I forgot that, was watching Fernando's onboard the whole race and with the softs he had massive graining on the rear right tyre. Which is weird considering the front left should be the most stressed tyre under this configuration. Lance while I didn't look it's likely he had the same issue. Certainly something to study and probably was a big reason the pace was bad.
That 15 lap stretch of watching Alonso's helmet or the rear wing was not entertaining, not sure what they were thinking.

I saw that, not all graining is problematic.

Thank you Spain. 💙🇪🇸. We gave everything on the track and I wish we had had more pace to finish higher. But I leave happy and with more points. It has been very special to live the whole experience this weekend. It will come....💪
Hopefully that "It will come" means better things to come!

Do you think they will change or made floor upgrade? well im not an expert, but it seems they have a very simple floor compare to RB, Merc or Ferrari

It's funny how the usual benchmarking track where everyone finds out their true performance results in the biggest outlier race of the year, starting with qualifying when a ferrari only got P19 and a hopeless Mclaren somehow got into P3.

And it's even funnier how some are already ranting about doom and gloom. It's one race lads. Like, are you lot not mature enough to understand that?

well, lets see on how AMR learn from the result of this benchmark track and what they can deliver for the rest.

I couldnt understand why they went on softs again after struggling so much in the first stint. Surely, trying on a different tyre makes more sense. They seem very conservative and tentative in their decision making on the pit wall.

Sounds like they’re pretty bullish about updates coming in the next few races; Canada and Silverstone. Going to finally cash in on that extra ATR allowance?

Front Limited, has nothing to do with AMR specifically, it means tracks where you're spending alot of time slowing down in corners. In Spain you had turns 4, 9, 12 and 13. Also long sweeping turns at high speeds. The Fronts are responsible for turning the car. This wears the fronts more than the rears, therefore, the front tires are your limitation and the track is front limited.

Yeah, the wing might have worked but there could be some other underling issue. Often with any kind of performance, the removal of 1 bottleneck will expose another a little further up the road.

Krack say the problem was the first stint on Softs. "We were quiet competitive on Hards".

They didn't really, Alonso just got stuck behind Hamilton, whereas here in Barcelona there was a clear pace deficit.

Yep, they obviously wanted to avoid the Mediums. Suggests they had problems keeping Mediums (C2) in their operating temperature.

AFAIK they only tried the mediums on friday which was hot. Different conditions on Sunday. Still if they were strictly no mediums, they could've gone hards and then try the softs at the end with the possibility that the lighter fuel load could be a performance differentiator.
