That was a great movie.hpras wrote:Nahh, the best car chase is from the original Blues Brothers.
It's got a cop motor, cop tires, cop suspension, cop shocks...
Not racing related, but two other good chase scenes can be found in Ronin and Bullitt.

Initial D is just a lame promotion for couple of asian stars who cant even speak jap.jddh1 wrote:mike wrote:Taxi 2 (french)? lol
redline?
initial D? rofl
FIA F1 season 2008? every1 acting like they cant drive(massa silverstone, glock brazil, kovi australia monza, nelson was "acting" the whole year, etc) and only Lewis can?
I've seen Taxi and Taxi 2. I don't speak French so I did not understand everything, but it was funny nonetheless.
Redline...HORRIBLE...and the dude that made it lost everything in the sub-prime market meltdown.
I've never even heard of Initial D.
Definitely the original. I haven't seen it in a while. I'll order it next week because I really loved it.smirkoff wrote:The original "Italian Job", you mean? That's a great funny movie, and to see those Minis going round Turin is great. The new version is the usual business when you get a car chase these days: it's so ridiculously over-edited that you can't figure what's happening.
And I'll try to find out the Jo Siffert movie. Sounds interesting.smirkoff wrote:Not a great movie but filmed at Le Mans in the 2002 race is the french "Michel Vaillant". Other things to check:
"Bob Deerfield": more a drama than a race movie, but there's scenes from the 1976 F1 season;
"Winning" - Paul Newman drives an Eagle at the 1968 Indy 500. There's a bit of CanAm at the picture's beginning, too.
"Jo Siffert: Live Fast - Die Young": documentary about the great swiss driver.
These rumors of C'etait un Rendez-vous need to be quelled once and for all. Nobody seems to understand what it was, or what car was used.andartop wrote:Just a few suggestions:
1. The French Connection. Not really about racing but often quoted as containing the best car chase in movie history. And a great movie too. Then you'll want to see number 2 just for the plot, so I suggest you get both.
2. C'etait un rendez-vous. Is it real? Is it a Ferrari? Is Gilles Villeneuve on the wheel or Lelouche himself? One thing's for sure. This short is a legend itself.
3. Climb dance. Grand Prix Du Film, Chamonix, 1990. Ari Vatanen. Peugeot 405 T16. Pikes Peak. Anybody in this forum who hasn't seen this should be smacked by Nazi hookers.
4. Any DVD including the name Jean Ragnotti in its title. I don't know if they have any official ones, I just got one that came mounted in a car magazine, and must have watched it at least 50 times before taking it out of the DVD player. You can even throw themed parties with it!!!
For some strange reason all 4 of my suggestions have something French about them. Maybe I should see a doctor!
Hence my use of question marks, and hence the "one thing's for sure" bit.Giblet wrote: These rumors of C'etait un Rendez-vous need to be quelled once and for all. Nobody seems to understand what it was, or what car was used.
Here is from Wiki
"Shot in a single take, it is an example of cinéma-vérité. The length of the film was limited by the short capacity of the reel, and filmed from a gyro-stabilised camera mounted on the bumper of a Mercedes-Benz 450SEL 6.9.[2] This model, which could reach a top speed of 235 km/h (146 mph), was only available with a 3-speed automatic transmission. Yet, one can hear gear changes up into 5th, as well as heel-and-toe down-shifting with a high-revving engine indicating speeds of well over 200 km/h. Calculations made by several independent groups showed that the car never exceeded 140 km/h (85 mph)[3], while another[4] estimated that the car had peaked at 220 km/h (136.7 mph). Lelouch himself claimed that the top speed achieved was over 200 km/h, somewhere between 230 km/h and 240 km/h.[5]It is suggested that the sound was dubbed with the noise of Lelouch's 275GTB, which has a corresponding number of gears and a similar engine note."
no Villeneuve, dig?
