That was a great movie.
It's got a cop motor, cop tires, cop suspension, cop shocks...

Not racing related, but two other good chase scenes can be found in Ronin and Bullitt.

FIA F1 season 2008? every1 acting like they cant drive(massa silverstone, glock brazil, kovi australia monza, nelson was "acting" the whole year, etc) and only Lewis can?

I've seen Taxi and Taxi 2. I don't speak French so I did not understand everything, but it was funny nonetheless.
Redline...HORRIBLE...and the dude that made it lost everything in the sub-prime market meltdown.

I've never even heard of Initial D.
Initial D is just a lame promotion for couple of asian stars who cant even speak jap.

and Redline also crash an Enzo what a waste...

The original "Italian Job", you mean? That's a great funny movie, and to see those Minis going round Turin is great. The new version is the usual business when you get a car chase these days: it's so ridiculously over-edited that you can't figure what's happening.

Not a great movie but filmed at Le Mans in the 2002 race is the french "Michel Vaillant". Other things to check:

"Bob Deerfield": more a drama than a race movie, but there's scenes from the 1976 F1 season;

"Winning" - Paul Newman drives an Eagle at the 1968 Indy 500. There's a bit of CanAm at the picture's beginning, too.

"Jo Siffert: Live Fast - Die Young": documentary about the great swiss driver.

Definitely the original. I haven't seen it in a while. I'll order it next week because I really loved it.
The new one was not too bad but, as you mention, way over the top. Not worth owning, in my opinion.

And I'll try to find out the Jo Siffert movie. Sounds interesting.

1. The French Connection. Not really about racing but often quoted as containing the best car chase in movie history. And a great movie too. Then you'll want to see number 2 just for the plot, so I suggest you get both.
2. C'etait un rendez-vous. Is it real? Is it a Ferrari? Is Gilles Villeneuve on the wheel or Lelouche himself? One thing's for sure. This short is a legend itself.
3. Climb dance. Grand Prix Du Film, Chamonix, 1990. Ari Vatanen. Peugeot 405 T16. Pikes Peak. Anybody in this forum who hasn't seen this should be smacked by Nazi hookers.
4. Any DVD including the name Jean Ragnotti in its title. I don't know if they have any official ones, I just got one that came mounted in a car magazine, and must have watched it at least 50 times before taking it out of the DVD player. You can even throw themed parties with it!!!

For some strange reason all 4 of my suggestions have something French about them. Maybe I should see a doctor!
These rumors of C'etait un Rendez-vous need to be quelled once and for all. Nobody seems to understand what it was, or what car was used.

Here is from Wiki

"Shot in a single take, it is an example of cinéma-vérité. The length of the film was limited by the short capacity of the reel, and filmed from a gyro-stabilised camera mounted on the bumper of a Mercedes-Benz 450SEL 6.9.[2] This model, which could reach a top speed of 235 km/h (146 mph), was only available with a 3-speed automatic transmission. Yet, one can hear gear changes up into 5th, as well as heel-and-toe down-shifting with a high-revving engine indicating speeds of well over 200 km/h. Calculations made by several independent groups showed that the car never exceeded 140 km/h (85 mph)[3], while another[4] estimated that the car had peaked at 220 km/h (136.7 mph). Lelouch himself claimed that the top speed achieved was over 200 km/h, somewhere between 230 km/h and 240 km/h.[5]It is suggested that the sound was dubbed with the noise of Lelouch's 275GTB, which has a corresponding number of gears and a similar engine note."

no Villeneuve, dig? :)

Hence my use of question marks, and hence the "one thing's for sure" bit.

I understand that. But interjecting things like Villeneuve drove when that was never tied to the movie makes me wonder where the information was made up from, or where you found it.

Legends and rumours are all good and fun, but when they have no basis in reality I tend to call them out.

Dug.

I had done a lot of research for this movie long before youtube and the download of pirated HQ movies online, as a good friend of mine is an editor in the television business and brought me a VHS copy that had been passed around the post production facilities of the world long before the average joe got to see it online, and just feel the need to clear it up :)

Well, it's just one of the rumors I've heard about it, though I can't remember where. Sorry.
So, what were the results of your research on it? Care to elaborate?

Re: Racing related movies

Everything that I found online over the years and was told is similar to what is on the Wiki page.

I'm not privy to any special information, but I viewed it before a lot of the "general internet public" had access to it.

The original rumour story that accompanied the video tape I saw for the first time in 1998, was that it was entered as a film for a film festival in Paris, and upon completion of the screening the director/producer/driver was arrested on the spot for dangerous driving and endangering the public.

With the occasional cursory search since that time, the information grew and grew, and so did the rumours. Most people thought at first it was a Dino, but it seemed to be agreed upon that the sound of the car didn't match the shifting, and the fact that the director owned both the 3 speed Merc and a 5 speed Ferrari.

I'm not trying to be difficult here, it's just that the Villeneuve rumour you mentioned I never came across in the 10+ years I've been a fan of the film, and if you some more information about the film I'd be glad to read it. You can see the driver at the end, and it should be easy to tell if that is him or not, but it is generally known to be the director. This video had a lot of basis in fiction before the facts started to come out.

Safari seems to have double post issues.

Try halfposting... or get an Opera 8)

Have anyone heard of the movie called Ferrari? It's NOT a documentary and it's not about racing that much but more about a racer and a very competetive man.

It's odd... the issues is that I post my message, and rarely, the site tells me that someone has already posted a new message in this thread, and I should maybe review my post. I basically get told by the site that I have already posted, and should ensure I review it, before having the option of double posting.

Thinking back, I had this issue with Chome on Windows, and Safari on Mac. Both are very fast because they are written with WebKit, but this might be why the problem has repeated.

I like Opera on mobile devices.

If the message was more clear, that MY message was already posted, and not just leave the message I had typed plus the submit and save buttons, it would make more sense.

If this is a _bug_ with WebKit related browser, as an ADC member I can bring it to Apple's attention and get it fixed, if not, it is an issue with the site.

Tomba?

Hey Modbaran, I've never heard of that movie, but it looks cool. I'll see if I can find it sometime this week and perhaps buy.

@ Giblet:
I'm using firefox on ubuntu and works great. No double posting, half posting or any of those issues you talk about. Get Linux on your system and you'll be fine. :P
