I got you. And on the fastest lap? The difference between our drivers is minimal on soft tires.
I can add that the highest speed for Lando without Tow occured on Lap 8 and for Oscar, Lap 18.
I'm going to play with the API tonight and see if I can extrapolate compounds also and put it into a cube of data, which I will make available.

I'll take a look at the fastest lap.
Thank you so much!
Piastri was 339 and Norris 337 on their fastest laps. However both Piastri and Norris had strong tows on these laps with cars between 200-300m away.

Well, well, so be it. In qualifying, they will also try to get a slipstream, and in the race there will be a drs train at all.

During the second practice, I noticed that on some lap Max got a slipstream from Checo. This plays a big role here. And you will have to keep this effect in mind for tomorrow.

There are some big differences in speed. The Mclaren has the peak potential but why was the lap slow despite the speed? Do we have to sacrifice something or were we simply not trying to set a fast lap time, perhaps this was during a race sim later on with a tuned setup.

I should probably download data for drivers other than Piastri and Norris and compare some of the data, see just how far out we are. I might do a scatter with peak speeds by lap per driver, if I can get the time.

In that case, thank you in advance if you get the chance.

Unless only in qualifying we will understand for sure when no one will hide their speed, everyone will use maximum power, and there will be fuel in the tanks for several fast laps. Interestingly, given that Q1 will need to use hard tires, maybe the team will choose a little more downforce?

I suppose it would help if this was the grouped by run, to demonstrate the minumum fuel load. I was trying to avoid fancy graphs and uploading pictures lol

Hopefully they're just showing more on Friday like they sometimes do (although it is odd to be that way even in the long run). Because a Williams ahead of a McLaren on pure pace would be... something
Williams ahead of Mclaren here is a massive possibility.

We don't have enough speed on the straights, we don't have enough racing pace, based on Lando's comment. However, he was pleased when they put in a less loaded rear wing, so last year. Hm. I will say this, I still do not give up my words that I am ready for a hard weekend.

Make what you want of this
Top speed is great in a session, but in it's nature it is an outlier. Looking at the data it feels like we are running lighter on fuel.

My take from both drivers is the car is only good on the soft compound which could be problematic as in Q2 they all need to run the mediums so a car which has a good balance on the medium could get into Q3 on medium merit but compared to the Mclaren is slower when on the soft compound.

What in the data suggests this? We certainly seem to be struggling on the long runs more but couldn't that just be a balance issue?

Honestly just a feeling based on us in some laps just being faster everywhere, which I don't believe we are. So either more fuel or higher mode.

Later I might plug this data into PowerBI to create some meaningful visualisations so that it includes minimum fuel load and a "Tow Score" I created in the data, which was basically 1-6 as a reverse of the number of seconds from the driver in front. But I get bored with excel and conditional formatting based on Index/Match.... lol
