It's odd that RBR did not rush to sign Piastri, before McLaren were able to extend his contract to the end of 2026. Hopefully Leclerc will still entertain RBR's contract offer for 2025-on, assuming RBR present him with one. "A team should always sign the two fastest drivers they can find."
I think too many rookies get too easily overlooked in my opinion.
This is gonna be slightly off-topic:
In times where you see a lot of talented rookies delivering from the get go (Piastri, Lawson, Verstappen, Leclerc, Norris, Russell), i don't understand why some teams keep fooling around with drivers who aren't delivering. Consider for a minute that Piastri was on the sidelines while Mick Schumacher was fooling around in Haas for 2 years, his talent just sitting there completely ignored and unused. And now Williams are, by all accounts, gonna give Sargeant another year in the car despite it being obvious that he isn't ever gonna be any good.
I know some drivers get better with time (like Albon), but to me - and this might sound brutal - if a driver can't prove that he's at the very least talented during his first Season, then he's not worth giving a second season. Lord knows how many Piastris (or even Lawsons) we're missing out on at the moment.
