Firing Perez just doesn't make any sense when you realize that whoever they put in to replace him is just as much of a gamble as he is. Ricciardo, Tsunoda, Lawson, either one of them would most likely get destroyed by Verstappen. If there was a Norris available the conversation would be different, but there isn't.
It's not a problem if the head to head is one-sided. The problem is Perez putting the car in unrespectable places like being knocked out in Q2 and/or crashing the car and exposing the floor as annual tradition.
I don't have any more faith in those other guys. They could just as easily be downgrades compared to Perez. Don't get me wrong, I'd love to see a change, but strategically it makes no sense unless Perez maintains the level he's been at for the past 3 races for the remainder of the season.

I wonder what they're cooking up. Maybe something they think isn't compatible with waterslides so is hard for anyone to copy? Does sound like Merc's W13 line of thinking a bit as you say :D

I guess with 2024 car, it's the car you need to invest a lot into and then evolve into the 2025 car. No team will be bringing entirely new cars to 2025 I think as everything needs to be focusing on 2026 at that point. So if RB thinks they're onto something special and is not possible to achieve with mid-season development / without a change at chassis level then that could be it for both 2024 and 2025

I think RBR are hoping that the ever-marketable Australia's Daniel Ricciardo will drive somewhat as he used to drive, presumably he is RBR's first preference for RBR 2024, assuming Ricciardo drives quickly and well in the Scuderia Alpha Tauri.

It's odd that RBR did not rush to sign Piastri, before McLaren were able to extend his contract to the end of 2026. Hopefully Leclerc will still entertain RBR's contract offer for 2025-on, assuming RBR present him with one. "A team should always sign the two fastest drivers they can find." :)

I think too many rookies get too easily overlooked in my opinion.

This is gonna be slightly off-topic:
In times where you see a lot of talented rookies delivering from the get go (Piastri, Lawson, Verstappen, Leclerc, Norris, Russell), i don't understand why some teams keep fooling around with drivers who aren't delivering. Consider for a minute that Piastri was on the sidelines while Mick Schumacher was fooling around in Haas for 2 years, his talent just sitting there completely ignored and unused. And now Williams are, by all accounts, gonna give Sargeant another year in the car despite it being obvious that he isn't ever gonna be any good.

I know some drivers get better with time (like Albon), but to me - and this might sound brutal - if a driver can't prove that he's at the very least talented during his first Season, then he's not worth giving a second season. Lord knows how many Piastris (or even Lawsons) we're missing out on at the moment.

As Red Bull arrived at Austin, it has found itself at the centre of media rumours, which originated in Brazil, of a power struggle between Horner and Marko. Suggestions that Horner was trying to engineer Marko’s exit, and of a potential civil war, were quickly shot down by world champion Max Verstappen though.

Doubt it. I think it's just going to be a broad update to the chassi and the car, one that is long in the making and encapsulates all the learnings of 2022-2023. The aero-philosophy won't change but it will be build on all strengths and try to eliminate weaknesses. This sort of iterative refinement will be hard for opponents to combat as they are not as experienced with this aero-philosophy and the chassi can't be changed mid-season. The struggle of following, you are never at the frontier of development.

Notably, a "waterslide" design concept has not yet shown us a performance envelope that covers more effectively the circuits raced on throughout the year, and specifically tyre life when running at ultimate pace.

I agree 100% with you. It baffles me sometimes that people like Hulkenberg are still around, for example. Is he "bad"? No, but he is just a journeyman, and will never ever be more, meanwhile they do not give a chance to some new talent that could prove to be much, much better. One could even put Ricciardo on this list, as he has not been anything special for some years now.

Perez fighting spirit seems to be back at the moment:
Explaining that he had never considered retirement, Perez continued: “It is difficult, of course. It's not ideal when you go through a patch, a difficult period of your career. But I just love the challenge of getting back at it.

“I think the easy thing would be to just walk out of it. But that's not who I am and I will not give up.

“I will have zero doubts that I will be back to my best level and that is my only target that I have in mind. I'm not even thinking about retirement or anything like that because that is the easy route.”

I read this like Horner has indeed had a good talk with Perez with the arm around the should approach, and ensured him he doesn't need to worry about the "24 seat as long as he just do his job and scores some top-5's.

Newey has bad news for the F1 competition: 'It's almost impossible'

Eddie Jordan has bad news for F1 fans hoping for more excitement. According to the former team owner, Adrian Newey has told him that it will be almost impossible for the competition to catch up with Red Bull. Good news, then, for fans of Max Verstappen.

"I don't care what engine Mercedes have, the car is not to the level and the quality aerodynamically, in terms of the ability to drive it hard and to get the maximum out of it like Max Verstappen is able to do. A lot of this, nevertheless, is to the sheer talent that Max has because Checo is not able to do the same thing as he can,"' Jordan says in the Formula For Success podcast.

Therefore, despite all the rumours surrounding Red Bull Racing, the F1 icon has no doubt who will win in Austin: Max Verstappen. Jordan believes Verstappen will keep on winning in the coming years. Jordan is almost certain of this after talking to Red Bull's Chief Technical Officer Adrian Newey.

"I was at a function the other night with Adrian Newey, we cycle a lot together in Cape Town, and Adrian tells me that he feels that the evolution of what they've got at the moment is going to be so difficult for anyone to catch up with. So please, folks out there, prepare yourself either for a boring time or an exciting time, depending on whether you're a Red Bull fan or not," Jordan said

Ignoring the laptimes, the onboards don't look amazing. Another certified sprint weekend incoming...

I think none of the teams have a nice looking onboard here luckily. The bumps make it horrendous

RB are protecting the tyres to a huge extent with the RW they're running..

We've never seen them run a Monaco level rear wing at this sort of track. Last year it was the medium downforce wing here!
