At the moment its impossible to beat that Red Bull Verstappen package. Their car is still faster. At best Norris could push for 3 laps before cooking his tyres behind the dirty air of Verstappen.

Probably true, but it would still be amazing to overtake Verstappen on merit.

A shame Norris couldn't overtake.

Overtaking Verstappen 101 - always take the inside line - if you have to go on the grass you should as he will not hesitate to push you wide.
I dont think it has ever been a chance.

You are right, making comparisons between drivers using “points” from different seasons to argue performance it’s flawed… Unluckily looking at just points takes all context out of the analysis, more importantly the car performance in those season versus the rest of the grid… Today, getting a good result and good amount of points with the current MCL60 is easier than last season, similar could be argued of the MCL34 which was only an upper midfield car… And that could be applicable to any pairing of drivers.

Oscar is doing a great job for a rookie and it’s showing glimpses of excellence at the same time… He has had great weekends and not so great ones, more experience will simply help reduce the gap between the good days and the bad ones.
Yes it is flawed, but that doesn't mean you can ignore it either, you simply can't make a definitive statement. None the less, you can certainly see that there is a lot of reason to look at this year in a positive light.
There are a lot of reasons to look at Oscar’s first season with a positive light… The fact that he may have a similar point ratio to Lando compared to the latter and Carlos is what is flawed… That doesn’t say anything in regards to how good or bad his performance is… We can talk about his performance in Qualy, his performance in Sprints, the speed showed and all of those paint him in a very positive light.
It isn't a points comparison, you missing the point. Lando performed well against Carlos in his first year and this is what the points show. In that season Lando and Carlos were both new to the 2019 car, whereas Lando was familiar with the flaws of this years car (SLow corners and the V Profile, for instance). The Lando that had a good start against Carlos is 5 years more experienced, was almost at parity with Carlos by his second year and is one of the best racers on the grid today. When you look at that, and see that Oscar is performing well against Lando by getting over half his points then there is a lot of useful context. For me, Oscars start to his F1 career is more impressive than Landos, but I appreciate you have different methods of looking that you are comfortable with.

They were side by side? If Norris was on the inside that is an overtake.

Once the overtake didn’t happen, the right thing to do was preserve tires… With such a short lap, an early pit stop puts you in a DRS train, Lando needs to stretch his stint beyond the Hamilton train and pit after they do… It will be hard to create a gap to fall into in the first stint… That’s why he quickly fell back to a 2-3 second gap to Max

It's been a very exciting race so far, as many have been this year. Once again we look clear second best which is fantastic.

It's just frustrating to have perfect Verstappen and best car of last 30 years as our opponent.

That would make a win even more valuable… The fact that this car is lapping around 2 tenths from that combination is simply amazing… The McLaren is a front runner for the first time in a decade

Yeah, amazing stuff. Best MC60B is best car since 2012. Maybe even better than that one as this car would be dominant in the second part of the year without Verstappen.

And what is even more unbelieveable that we have an all-runner car. No matters on which circuit we are, this car is simply by far the 2nd fastest car. :)

If only the car had been like this from the start of the season...

It's the benchmark and why I talk about the benchmark for the team and the drivers.

It's one of the best driver team combinations in the history of the sport and we have to either challenge that with the team and drivers raising their game or hope RB produce a sh*t car 🤣
