Sets of tyres selected by each team. McLaren not taking any C4-C5

Such a strange allocation. Why don’t they have equal between the sets?

Line merc only taking 2 sets of C1 and C2.

Why should they be equal :D C3 is the soft tyre for Bahrain so it's not surprising so many of those are taken

They could use a more equal tyre allocation to see how the car works softer or harder tyres.

You could get plenty of data points on all the tyres to add to charts/models of deg.

C1 or C2 will be used for the race. Merc only have enough for each driver to do one simulation on each. Kind of strange.

Each team has 39 sets so the allocation probably depends on car performance on varying compounds. C3 was the most used compound in 2023 so it makes sense that it will be tested the most.

All teams should have to take the C5 so that Pirelli has data.

Mercedes managed to finish second with a fundamentally flawed car.

If those flaws are fixed (likely) I suspect we are going to see Redbull and Mercedes comfortably ahead of teams like Aston, Ferrari and McLaren. Redbull ahead, but the pair in a different league than the rest.
I mean, Ferrari also had a fundamentally flawed car. Inconsistent downforce, bad deg, poor reliability (relative to Merc). If they fix some of that and add a bit of performance I see no reason why Ferrari can't take a similar step to Merc.
I should have said why I think Ferrari are in the 'b-class' too.

I believe Ferrari has all but given up on 24/25 and will focus a lot of resources on 26. More so than any other team apart from maybe Redbull if they start this season super strong. There is a reason they managed to get Hamilton and I suspect it's not money or a childhood red dream.

Ferrari didn’t get 2nd thanks to the clownshow that FIA put up in Vegas because at the end of the season it was clearly the 2nd best car and quite close to RB. The new car is rumored over 1s faster than older car, but they gave up?

The new Ferrari being over 1 second faster than the end of season is best left as a rumor.

Nah, that’s a done deal for RB unless the new concept doesn’t work.

They have not given up totally as they still have to save face.

But why would they put any more time and resources into 24/25 than they have to (to not be a total joke)?

They will never win the championship in those years. It's pointless doing anything other than focusing on 26.

The same could be said for Mercedes, but I think they are much closer to Redbull than Ferrari. Certainly in terms of good ideas (they just never got them to work). Look at how Redbull are using a lot of Mercedes ideas this year, that is very telling.

It's not a done deal for RB. The sim driver said the rival teams would need 1 second over the winter. If the Ferrari rumor is true, they are in a fantastic position.

No work on chassis side for 2026 can start before 1st January 2025.

So Mercedes will be 2nd because RBR was inspired by their ideas that didn’t work and aren’t using any more?

Doesn’t seem very reasonable
