If Max car is understeery, he’s going to have a much easier time applying traction with steering but those square corners will be more challenging. I’m sure he’s going to get it together in quali, but his fronts will not feel too well, which would explain how they looked fairly bad after just 2 fast laps in fp1.Xyz22 wrote:

I think Ferrari seemed to have chosen a slightly less loaded rear wing, but I’ve only seen the image from Fabrega, not sure if they changed the wings.
Pretty poor showing in turn 10. Unexpected.
I think the McLaren's will be sitting ducks on the straight if they are ahead.Xyz22 wrote: ↑19 Apr 2024, 17:01We need to qualify ahead of the McLarens at all costdialtone wrote: ↑19 Apr 2024, 16:48If Max car is understeery, he’s going to have a much easier time applying traction with steering but those square corners will be more challenging. Looking at f1 tempo data, I think Zhou messed up Charles more than first thought. Charles was 4.5 tenths up before catching up and then just bled time throughout the lap.Xyz22 wrote: ↑19 Apr 2024, 13:56Zhou was simply slow. Leclerc wasn’t impeded but slowed a bit. His SQ3 was just messy because he lost the car in the outlap trying to be aggressive on tyres warm up and had to pit to fix the damageSoulPancake13 wrote: ↑19 Apr 2024, 13:49I saw that Charles was heavily impeded by Zhou on his final lap? What actually happened?
If you look at the onboard, there was no visibility for charles at all in the last 3 corners. Zhou also cut a corner in s2 which probably didn’t help Charles focus either.SoulPancake13 wrote:Looking at f1 tempo data, I think Zhou messed up Charles more than first thought. Either way, he seems to have better understood tyre warm up, dry laps looked pretty good to me, so hopefully no more rain this weekend and he can showcase the new understanding in the real qualy. Not a surprise both Red Bulls and Ferraris struggled with tyre warmup, bodes well for a dry sprint on a green track.dialtone wrote: ↑19 Apr 2024, 19:39If you look at the onboard, there was no visibility for charles at all in the last 3 corners. Edit: s3 has been where Charles built his laps here in China, both in dry and his first lap on wet were generally purple in s3.
I don’t know about that - at the point Charles set his prior lap, he was 3rd and only 3 tenths off with a purple final sector. Everyone then got even quicker in their final laps and it seems like Charles was balked, without that it seems very likely he would at least have been in front of Max.
Lando was 9th if his attempt hadn’t been reinstated, and said after seeing LEC spin he chilled down a bit during the outlap in a post qualifying interview.f1316 wrote:I don’t know about that - at the point Charles set his prior lap, he was 3rd and only 3 tenths off with a purple final sector.
