So according to Leclerc they are 0.25s behind RB at its best.
He also said that they can still extract more from the upgrade package, up to 0.1s and therefore be around 0.15s from RB.
In Imola on the first stint on the medium it was noticeable that the bulls are still ahead, but because of the suboptimal setup for the hard (Horner also said that not testing the hard in practices was a bad idea), it looked like the rivals were closer than they actually were.
Ferrari was also carrying more drag than RB and McLaren in Imola, so their setup was suboptimal as well. If the gap per lap in the race to Max is no more than 2-2.5 tenths in Barcelona, it will confirm Ferrari have made a step up. Canada is resurfaced and this will help RB, but there will be lots of rain this weekend and we won't get a clear picture most likelyyooogurt wrote: ↑07 Jun 2024, 12:31In Imola on the first stint on the medium it was noticeable that the bulls are still ahead, but because of the suboptimal setup for the hard (Horner also said that not testing the hard in practices was a bad idea), it looked like the rivals were closer than they actually were.
Charles also said that he thinks the next upgrade package could put them ahead of Red Bull. Let's see how it goes, after this weekend there will Spain, Austria, and then Silverstone where the next upgrades are supposed to arrive.
I really dont think they're gonna sacrifice the more realistic(though still potentially not that realistic) aim just to go for a complete moon shot chance of beating Max instead.Farnborough wrote: ↑06 Jun 2024, 20:57Exactly.Seanspeed wrote: ↑06 Jun 2024, 20:23Beating Max will require something extra special. I think WCC is probably a more achievable, thought still difficult aim. And in that case, you want to use team orders only to help team result, not any specific driver.Farnborough wrote: ↑06 Jun 2024, 12:43Likely that CS will now be on team orders if they are to fully exploit chasing MV with CL this season for drivers championship.
They dont need to let that slip away if there's any choices to make between their own two drivers.
They are close to just one DNF from RB to being on par. I don't think any of the teams would ignore a chance, even a small one, to shoot at driver's world championship.
Sense of reality is to push for all scores to be CL biased if there's choice to do so in the race.
They'll be kicking themselves come year end otherwise.

You are probably right, Toto would rather take a flyer on a (i think) overhyped prospect than admit this "L" and just put Sainz on the car to make a solid duo with Russell.Vanja #66 wrote: ↑07 Jun 2024, 08:27Toto is fixated on getting Max, they also have Antonelli to place somewhere and Russell is most likely at least as good as Sainz. Besides, Sainz was dropped by Ferrari to get Hamilton, so Mercedes replacing Hamilton with Ferrari's drop-off is not a good look for Mercedes brand...
No matter how good Sainz is, he's not an alien like Hamilton, Alonso, Max or Leclerc. Alien-pretenders include Norris, Piastri and Russell. That's 7 drivers most likely more desirable than Sainz and next year 5 of them will occupy the 3 best cars of 2024.
