Mclaren was slower on all the straights today.

The difference is very minimal though. Could be down to corner exits and/or wind here

Ghost car comparison of this would be a interesting watch.

What happens after T4 till the end is ridiculous.
0.3s gain in half a lap that lasts barely over a minute, with 'setup changes'.
My gut feel - some massive 'eureka' has happened. Probably this is what RB20 was 'leaving on the table' over the past 3-4 races. Because 3 tenths is the kind of gain that happens when people bring a 'massive upgrade' like McLaren did in Miami. Probably what Norris thinks of this as well. He looked like a deflated baloon in the post-Q interview, was painful to see a cheerful guy look so downbeat.

Norris is very hard on himself. Too hard almost. I mean, it is good to acknowledge where you can do better, but you also mustn’t destroy yourself. This happens to perfectionists. And then after the sprint race, this qualy, can be hard, first you blame yourself, second the car that was there now also isn’t (in this qualy).

what do they smoke ? start on hard ? LOL

anyway I think that most of drivers don't have 2 sets of hard, interestingly RedBull saved two hards for the race, maybe they saw something ?

It's the Max-factor and using every millimeter of track available. Meanwhile Checo's dismal pace suggests the McLaren is probably an easier car to drive.

from the f1.com strategy guide:

...and with tire age additions by myself:

edit: the sheet above shows scrubbed hards for McLaren and Racing Bull, but they didn't use them in any official session, so no idea what that is about. Maybe the used them to get to the grid in the sprint.

.

Also, if you notice in the trace, VER or NOR, one of them, has inverted their driving style into the slow corners.
1,3,4 corners (I'm guessing it's VER since his car had the change - in SQ he was braking late, sacrificing exit and in Q he was braking early, sacrificing entry) in Q are looking the mirror image of the same in SQ.
Imho your deduction is showing Max ability to adjust his driving style to the car…

The SQ3 run was with a too fast outlap, because they all waited so long before they went out. So tyre temps will have been too high towards the end of the lap.

Pretty good allocation for Max then. 3 laps isnt really too much to worry about.

Nice. Yuki made a desperate grab for langauge barrier excuse after being in Europe for more than ten years.

Yeah, goodbye. Yuki still struggles enormously with his English. It is hard to understand him every interview. He has no vocabulary. None. It is always so easy for the native speakers to sweep it under the rug.
