This forum contains threads to discuss teams themselves. Anything not technical about the cars, including restructuring, performances etc belongs here.
If he'd given it back 6 laps earlier and legitimately overtook later, they could be unhappy but little more.
No issue with ruthless, but also be clever.
I think they wouldn't take the risk. The same was the case in Italy 2021.
I also believe they had an agreement beforehand to keep the positions after the 2nd pitstop, that's why Lando was so stubborn
If I was Norris, I would think that opinion (which counts) would be more in his favour if the overtake was fought for and won with the advantage returned.

I doubt they would stop them racing after the first corner. But I think they would probably say that sometimes an advantage is given and expected to be returned when told, as a means for the team to manage their cars effectively.
I think they underestimated Landos competitiveness.
I'm sorry, but this was probably the worst McLaren from a strategy-decisions point of view yet. There was no need to cover off Hamilton, and even if there had been, there was no reason to undercut with Norris. That created a situation where Norris could no longer battle Piastri on track because the team wanted to swap them around. In hindsight, Norris should have immediately given the place back and then try and overtake Piastri, but that would've been a little risky given the gaps at the time.
Bottom line: If you want to win a WDC, you can't *INTENTIONALLY* cost your contending driver 7 points (more than 10 percent of Verstappen's lead post-Hungary). Getting a strategy wrong is one thing, but this is NEXT LEVEL stupidity that almost makes me feel like they don't even deserve to challenge for a WDC. What an utter embarrassment.
But wow I don't blame any of the drivers... this is solely on the pitwall.
I had deleted my comment earlier because I was quite mad when they decided to pit LANDO TWICE to cover and Hamilton who isn't even in the same universe as us... Just over and over again this strategy team..

So stupid to pit Lando first on the second rounds. They gave themselves this awkward situation of begging for the swap.
Incredible. How can they get a 1-2 with both drivers being unhappy.
Was it that stupid? Max was catching and lewis and Leclerc were catching. He only came out 4 seconds clear, and with a 2.3 stop. You can't make it more difficult than needs be.
Yes, it is incredibly stupid. Both cars within 2 seconds and you have a 6-7 seconds cushion to the guy you want to cover.
You give priority to the car which has track position first, then pit Lando the following lap. Easy. Maintain the order and let drivers settle it on track and there was absolutely zero risk to Lewis. At least no risk that wasn't applicable to Oscar as well with P1-P2 being that close.
Absolutely spot on. The risk against Hamilton was very little and they still would have time to cover Hamilton if Oscar pitted first. They very very nearly shot themselves in the foot here. They are too reactive.
Amazing win but boy those radio comms were amateur-central for me.
No need for this amount of “controversy”. Good to see the boys were fine with each other after the race but those pit timings stink to high heaven. Creating problems for themselves when there are none
Mclaren 1-2 BAYBEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! We did it on merit, we were fastest all weekend, and a well deserved 1-2 victory for us! We capitalized on the ''bad'' weekend for RBR and we are officially in the hunt for the constructors championship. HOWEVER, the team did an amateur call to pit NOR first, at a moment when he had a substantial lead over HAM, he was never in danger of him, so we had a unnecessary drama with the swap of the positions with PIA which put a dent on this first ever F1 win, I guess this is part of the learning curve on how to be a winning force in F1 again.
Overall so so happy about us, and I cant wait for SPA next weekend.
I get it's all still raw, but so much overreaction over the strategy. Yes they could have handled it better, but this moment will come back full circle over the course of the season. The team are looking long term, this one moment will help them (and Lando!) in both championships.
