Odd that Lando is the only one on a soft right now for the first run in FP2
Just a fan's point of view

A more moderately loaded beam wing on Oscar's car at the start of FP2.

They should stick with that. Much better S2 but quite a bit of laptime was lost in S3. Could have been a mistake by Oscar though.

From the team stream:
"It's interesting seeing Lando – and LEC – start this session with a Soft tyre fitted. It isn't the standard approach, but it allows them to defer making a decision on tyre allocation for the weekend. They're both still in position to choose 5-1-1, 4-2-1 or 4-1-2."

Is Lando running the fp1 wing?

Strong lap by Piastri. Verstappen on new softs matched him but Piastri had a snap in T7.

Lando also really strong. Reassuring to see the gap to Mercedes and Ferrari as well. The less disturbance they have with the rest, the higher the chances for the race win. (Assuming no rain and Verstappen penalty)

That is quite complicated. With Verstappen having a penalty, you'd want Mercedes and Ferrari to be decently fast so Verstappen can't overtake them. A balancing act, you don't want them too fast but not too slow either.

But yeah, looks like the car has good pace. With this pace it should be a win on Sunday.

Its still 4 cars worth of traffic. Drs train would be ideal, but still, you will gain some "free" time with Max having to go through.

Out of curiosity. Is Mclaren finding time by tweaking the current upgrade every gp? Apart from that new front wing have they brought anything else? How is it possible that Red Bull has taken another step back with the upgrade? Red Bull has definately brought many more upgrades than us.

I meant front wing upgrade from Silverstone. That was the last upgrade. Did we bring a new floor or new sidepods or something? I mean new upgrades.

They brought low downforce upgrades for Silverstone and Spa.

I think they are extracting performance from the upgrade they brought before (realistically car was close to the fastest since Miami). I would be worried if I was other teams, next McLaren upgrade may push them further ahead.

There have been other small things that they brought since Miami, which collectively do make a difference. Other than that, we have no idea what sort of work is going on in the background.

It could be that engineers back at the factory are just simply finding really good setups for each track. Which of course also means that the car is very versatile and has a wider performance range compared to the others.

And thats where most of this relative performance is probably coming from.

Race pace looks slightly faster than Max for Pia on the same tire
