He was actually fastest when he was following Albon, he was using DRS. He didn't always use DRS, it has a big effect in lap time. So the delta laptime is over 2 seconds slower than when the car is pushing. Do they really drive 2 seconds slower in F1 to make the tires last a stint?
He seemed to want to go in early and try a final lap on the softs...they said no.
Remember, the long runs are more about sticking to a time you think you can, then looking at the consumption on the tire to get a target time for the race. So just because they were targeting 1:51 during FP2, it doesn't mean that's what they'll do during the race. They'll correct depending on what they see.
