the onboard above shows no steering input from Perez to cause the crash.
It's Sainz who comes drifting in.
It's upto the FIA to apparition the blame to whoever they like, or leave it as a racing incident.

But in my mind, it's 100% Sainz's fault. A no brainer judgement, for me.
Sainz is following racing line. If there’s one right the car behind doesn’t have is to dictate what line the car in front has, there is a lot of room next to Per to stay there and gain while not crashing on Sainz in his race.

It was ruled racing incident but your take would absolutely not survive if Max was instead of Sainz. It would be completely ridiculous if the car behind was allowed to tap the car in front like that. Ferrari was penalized at LeMans for that move during the last few hours. In any racing series PER is penalized.

Except the track comes slightly to the left, so no steering input does not absolve him of some blame.

50/50 for me.

Sianz moved a little but also Perez could have avoided it. The Ferrari was slowly wondering over, it’s not like it was a surprise.

Thoughts?
It's legal. RedBull aaand McLaren were masters of it in 2021.

It's legal if it passes the tests, but in 2021 the tests were changed mid-season to prevent this sort of behaviour

I'm actually confused how with so much pressure above the wing, the plane is able to flex upwards like that. It would have to be pivoting from a point lower than the centre of the flap surely?

It’s really weird that the bottom corners lift up.

And that is how F1 should be. Innovating, exploiting gray areas, technical development.

If Verstappen gets anything less than a DSQ for this then the FIA is clearly rigged…

The rules are pretty clear on such infringements!
https://www.crash.net/f1/news/1055613/1 ... -under-vsc

Maybe its rigged after all, the last sentence by FIA makes it very clear as they just slapped the wrist this time and only warned but said any repeat offense by those who currently caused this time and ANY OTHER DRIVERS IN FUTURE will be punished.

The Stewards are aware that this has happened earlier this season and was not noticed at the time. We are therefore warning the driver concerned, ALONG WITH ALL OTHER COMPETITORS. Further breaches may incur significant penalties.

So basically only those whonthebFIA feel shoukd be allowed to overtake during the safety car, since "any does not mean all".

It would be the fault of the car that is drifting left, when the straight line road is going into a lefthander turn (turn 3). Regardless of who the drifter is - Sainz, Max or lord Ayrton Senna himself.
Grow up.

Not necessarily.

If you look at an airplane, the leading flaps (known as the "slats") also extend downwards - intiutively, people might think this would drive the plane downwards - but it actually helps it to generate lift. Airflow is a funny thing.

If you look at the McLaren DRS wing, just before the wing ends at either side, you see it going slightly up in its design. This is probably intentional, and causes the bottom of the wing - where the leverage is the greatest, because its furthest from the pivot point - to lift the wing up, allowing airflow through, while at the same time having the rest of the wing generate mostly downforce.

It's likely an exponential effect: The more the wing is lifted, the less downforce is generated. So it still generates downforce at lower speeds, but when approaching max speed, suddenly there's enough force to lift the wing, causing it to then generate even more upward force, and lifting it significantly.

Also, for that reason, i imagine this would be a disadvantage in high-speed corners. This is probably a trick we will mostly see at circuits like Baku, with mostly medium to low-speed corners and long straigths.

Someone tell mclaren this isn't 2026 yet, for all the active aero

They are absolutely taking the piss by now, and you just know this will slide because it's creating fake competition.

Who was at blame in Brazil 2019 according to you, Charles or Seb?
