Although I still think it's a stupid thing for the FIA to be doing at this point in these regs.... I still think they're not really after the "Flexi wings", per se, but are still wanting to prevent what AM were doing (transformer Front wings).zoroastar wrote: ↑01 Feb 2025, 23:46i hope the team hasnt spent too much time and money developing new flexible front wings since the FIA just announced that they will be clamping down on them once again in around 4 months time. maybe by then they will change their mind again. i swear they must be run by a bunch of clowns.
we will see. they say that they will release a new TD a few weeks into the last season of these regs, after telling us on several occasions that they wont be revisiting it. i mean, unless they are clamping down on them harder all together, i dont see the purpose. they simply banned astons wing. no TDs needed for that. its the fact that they keep changing their minds that makes it seem like they are manipulating things behind the scenes.diffuser wrote: ↑02 Feb 2025, 01:16Although I still think it's a stupid thing for the FIA to be doing at this point in these regs.... Exactly, the MB WT should be phased out. But make the correlation comparison while they still have the opportunity. This will allow them to know whether MBs WT has weaknesses or is the benchmark. The Honda WT is already a proven WT and AMRs is still in calibration stage. It may benefit AMR to see what HALOs data says, especially since it is capable of crosswind and off-center angle of attack as well as drafting and dirty air measurements. It's capabilities shouldn't be discounted and I wouldn't be surprised if there is something both Honda and AMR could learn from. Newey said that he lost access to his tools at RB, but it shouldn't stop him from acquiring new tools.diffuser wrote: ↑01 Feb 2025, 13:02At this point, the Merc WT is in phase out mode. Probably the last year of Merc Tunnel use. What would be the point in switching when you're already all setup at Merc WT?ispano6 wrote: ↑31 Jan 2025, 10:30Why not leverage Honda's HALO wind tunnel, which has been in commission for over 2 years and has been used for Indycar and WEC. It should be capable of providing correlation data of both WTs and possibly an avenue to not count toward aero time if Honda is comparing data of previous year cars.
Plus, they've been using the Merc WT for several years. It is your baseline. The Honda tunnel would just be another new WT that they would need to compare against the baseline.
The PU is being developed in Sakura Japan, likely even farther away. In this day and age of remote capabilities and rapid prototyping, logistics is far less impractical.
It would be illegal for Toyota to do CFD analysis for HAAS.ispano6 wrote: ↑02 Feb 2025, 19:48The PU is being developed in Sakura Japan, likely even farther away. In this day and age of remote capabilities and rapid prototyping, logistics is far less impractical.
Take Haas for example. You don't think Toyota is doing CFD analysis for Haas, who uses Ferrari's WT?
It's understood that HRC/HPD North America is also involved in the 2026 PU development to aid Sakura. Finding synergies across the pond and leveraging each areas strengths is key to AMR Honda's success. Mr. cowell has mentioned Honda isn't just motivated but also hugely creative. I know first hand that the old guard at Honda are immensely fond of and respect the brand Aston Martin. This opportunity to work with such an iconic luxury marque is once in a lifetime for them.
They haven't quite stuped to Horner dick pics yet, so they must be getting some clicks.
