Liuzzi said he was already worried by what Vettel was doing behind him so decided to basically let him through in that corner leaving all the inside to Vettel. But even that didn't save him.

He (Luzzi) has to turn in sharper at this point, if he wants to make the corner, otherwise he would have run off the track.
But I agree, that it was Vettels´s corner/line at that moment.
To me it´s and racing incident, similar to Schumacher vs. Rossberg, don´t think it requires a penality on either side.

In the first sequence, it looks like Vettel is running out of steering lock/control imput to catch the rear/OS.

In another replay you can see the scene from the front when the front wing flies away. It is clear from this shot that there is tons of space to the outside of Vettel. Liuzzi is simply not steering clear.

I don't think you can blame Liuzzi though. I thought Vettel slid the rear and his rear made contact with Liuzzi's wing

I have looked at the replays frame by frame and nowhere is one of the cars sliding.

I don't agree with the penalty which dropped him out of the points for this. My opinion is shared by the majority of voters of the F1technical poll.

Really? Looks like 2/3rds of voters think it was about right or should have been even more severe.

Perhaps your mentioning of the pole (which I for one had not noticed) made people go and vote and thus turn the result against your stated position.

Oops, I misread the third option. I still stick with the 36% opinion that the stewards should not have penalized Vettel for the accident. It was a misjudgment about the reaction of the car on the aggressive steering input over that bump on his behalf. He wasn't aware that he was going to have the back end step out and that he would not catch it with opposite look due to the slippery surface. The situation easily lend itself to such a mistake. If all such actions get punished we will not see much overtaking in the future.

I admit that McLaren supporters can in all honesty have a different view because their man suffered, but it doesn't change my point of view. One can disagree about the use of the penalty.

I disagree with both of these points.

Vettel is running considerably wider than the normal racing line in the first image. He's overshot the apex by a margin, and is having to turn much more to make the apex for the second corner.

In the second image, unless Liuzzi turns in sharply, he's not just going to miss the second corner, but he's going to either jump over it or miss it completely, as he's been pushed so far wide by Vettel trying to race him off the track.

There is plenty of space at the point of collision towards the outside edge of the track for Liuzzi to go. Watch the piece of front wing come up beside Vettel's helmet for reference to the series of pics I posted before.

You can't blame Vettel for this crash.

Only a dunderheaded fool would blame Vettel for Luizzi loosing his wing. Even the anti-German BBC pundits defended Vettel on this!
