Alonso got a really lucky pole because Vettel hit the wall messing up his lap.
What I think will happen is Vettel's car will be the fastest in the first stint.
He will hound Alonso for position and could cause and accident.
No matter how we lucky at it, Vettel's car is more than like 4 or 5 tenths a lap faster than Alonso's.
Alonso being the better driver simply got more out of the car when it counted.
Webber is also in a faster car than at least one of the Mclarens. He'll hound Button for position as well.
Interesting race we have on our hands indeed. The cars are so shuffled in terms of speed and grid position that pit stops could decide who wins or loses.
Interesting post, Ringo. I tend to think "Vettel's car is more than like 4 or 5 tenths a lap faster than Alonso's" is a bit over the top. Regardless of which car is faster (I think the Red Bull is the quicker of the two), it's the combination of car and driver that counts, espeecially at this track. I'm biased, but I think Alonso/F10 is the best combination this weekend.

I would be very nervous if I were Alonso.
I mean, he is going to be dancing with the Boss all light long Lionnel richie style.
Who knows how long his engine will hold up? Or his gearbox? It could possibly have the same problem as Massa's.. I wonder how long his car will last?

I hope Vettel does what he does best and hopefully LH will be around when he does it. That would make it clear sailing for Fred.

Having pace and knowing what to do with it are two different things. Vettel is still learning what to do when he's not out front with a faster car.

Yeah, he's in a very stressful situation and you have no idea of what's gonna happen in the race. With the championship being very tight, It's a gambling for him in the remaining races I believe.

Let see how long LH's race will last first :D With Vettel, Button and Webbo (and LH himself for what matters) abound may not be long

i disagree, the gap is more like 2 tenths, and besides the mclarens and ferrari's are allways more comptetive in race trim, so its gonna be pretty tight I think.
2 things of intrest is obviously the weather, and also the start....last year it was a clear advantage to be on the clean side, s we could potentially see hamilton jump to second an webber to 4th.

Apparently McLaren have toughened up the front end of his car for this race. The shape of the new front wing has nothing to do with aero but it has been designed to absorb the impact from hitting another car with minimal damage. So now he can drive the others without worry. :D

So many wishing to end another driver's race prematurely. I know Hamilton crashing out is Alonso's or Vettel's only hope of winning tomorrow 8) , so it's natural some of you want him to crash out again, but hey, I want to see everyone go through the first turn in one piece.
I want to see an Alonso Hamilton showdown, every time it looks like it's about to happen something interferes.

Put away the voodoo doll cars man.
Some of you didn't buy those scale models because you're Mclaren fans.

The start could look as clean as this:

It's not that but it is just plain hilarious when the Hamilton fans start sulking and condemn the race rather than enjoy the rest of the race.

Anyway, with the reinforcment of the McLaren front end, there is less chance of him taking himself out.

The wing's alright it's the tie rods that need to double up.

Speaking of overtaking, Button mentioned overtaking Vettel.
I believe he is expecting Vettel to lunge at Hamilton and create an opening so he can waltz through. This happened in Germany when vettel snapped at Alonso leaving a gate way for Massa to jump into P1.
So Hamilton gets a good start, Vettel lunges, Button drives straight ahead, stays on the inside of the turn and should be able to screen off Hamilton and Vettel.

Or.. He only mentioned overtaking Vettel to play mind games with him. Either Vettel blocks Hamilton and lets button through, or he leaves Lewis and shields button.
Leaves Vettel with some serious thinking to do at the start.
For Sure!!

Button is probably banking on Vettel swiping accross the track to close off Hamilton and leave a gap for Button to get through. Vettel should just drive straigh at the start and concentrate on getting past Alonso and forget about the rest of the field.

I would think suzuka is more a cake walk seeing how the RB is still likely very quick in the high speed turns.

Vettel has a car that is perhaps marginally faster in qualifying trim than Alonso's Ferrari. There is absolutely no point for him to try to pass Alonso with a forced maneuver. He must focus on a good race start and bringing in points without too much risk. The team must try to figure out a way to stay ahead of the other cars and possibly jump Alonso at the stop. If he finishes second he will still have done a good job considering he did not get it together in Q3. That was really disappointing after his domination of FP2 and FP3.
