Renault R31

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

Isn't an IR sensor overkill to see how the exhaust is affecting the surrounding area? I've only seen them used for tyre temperatures, since they have depths to them. But the odd thing is that it's behind the blade, so it can't be directed the front tyres. :wtf:

Another one.

What if the vertical plate was there for the launch at that size and shape just to cover part of the system?

Check the cut on its inner side marked by blue arrow.

What if that is where it will be trimmed to clear the way for that caponier-like bump on top of the floor? If you look closely, it is an aperture closed by plate, just closed, not sealed or anything.

I still think that the exhausts are routed all the way to the back and flow out just before the last lower wishbone, and right onto the top of the diffuser. Need testing pics asap!

PLEASE let the testing begin so all these crazy theories can be put to rest (except the one crazy theory that turns out to be true!). My favorite so far is super-cavitation. Kudos for having the grand imagination it took to liken an F1 car to a torpedo.

Taking a second look, it looks like the back of the barge board, it's the lighting that gives it away...

So, like carbon fiber dinosaur bones, or something? Anyway, just remember I too had faith, when you start smiting the locals and what not. But I'll ask again: is it more for setting up a "skirt" around the floor, or to simply accelerate flow around the base of the sidepod?
