I'm not convinced it needs to be a first corner dive – if HAM can stick with WEB for 2 laps his straight line speed advantage should have the job done in no time.

Another Vettel win will do nicely, though he doesn't need to win. The title is in the bag.

Generally I don't care about what people say. I have to be clear with myself. When everything goes well, people celebrate you, when you make mistakes people criticize you.

What a shame: The FIA wants to reduce costs, then "clarifies" issues, and teams like MGP spent money for a now useless development. When the maFIA allowed 10 % engine throttle opening since GP Spain the teams should have been secure that this rule would last to the end of the season. If I were MGP I would send a bill to Mr Whiting.

At least we know now (in contrast to assuming) that half a second of RB's advance was due to clever engine mapping.

I think the FIAs line of reasoning is that: yes the teams have spent money developing this tech, but they aren't done spending yet and all teams are spending more and more in this area. They also have a philosophical issue with using the engine as active aero, that I share, hence believing that this has gone on for too long and that they need to act now.

I for one am not convinced that Red Bull were really "feeling" the effect of the technical clarification. I suspect that they just turned the wick down a touch so as to appear to have been slightly disadvantaged.

I haven't seen the detail of the change, but I bet the clever bods have worked out a way of still running their map in quali. Maybe they run it until the end of the first lap too in order to ensure a good getaway before changing to "mix 2" or whatever which has the same effect as changing a map. Maybe this explains Webber's puffs of smoke at the start of the race in Bahrain 2010 (he didn't change modes leaving a sh*tload of fuel in his exhaust pipes which burnt off when he gave it the beans?

Who knows.... Whatever, red bull seem to be still Q-dominant. Looking forward to the race to see how their race pace is affected.

I would however like to know what Vettel was looking at after Q3 on Hamilton's and Alonso's cars. It seemed like he was checking out the backs of their steering wheels, but what in particular might he have been looking for?

Unless weather intervenes I suspect this will be a carbon copy of previous races. Vettel blasting away into the lead and taking a comfortable win, but at least from p2 down there will be some exciting races.

The blown diffuser is still worth having. 10% is better than zero percent!

Vettel's wins in Barcelona and Monaco were anything but comfortable. And he was looking comfortable in Canada when Button came from out of nowhere to beat him. Unless Red Bull improve their race pace relative to Mclaren, Seb will have to fight for his wins now.

I think Mclarens are mighty fast (faster than RedBulls during race) and it goes to show that Vettel is really outstanding staying ahead of them.

Now, with all these BS about banning off-throttle exhaust and engine maps in the middle of the season. To me, it is just the beginning of Whiting exercising his authority to try and curb RB's achievement. All these beautiful innovations like double diffuser, F-duct, exhaust diffuser, engine maps are brilliant works from the engineers. It is a shame when these innovations work too well, it becomes outlawed. I guess you can rate the level of genius of the engineer by the number of innovative ideas what lead to fast times but banned later.

Lets see how this circus show turns out end of this year.

Does anyone have the on board camera video of Alonso's Q3? Not sure what he was doing with his right hand just before he crosses the finish line.

Good question. I think most probably Newey wanted him to check that section of the rival cars since he can't go and have a look himself :) Horner was asked about it after the qualy and of course he completely played it down by attributing it to Vettel's curiosity

From the post Q interview on th F1 site....

Q: (Alvaro Faes - La Nueva Espana) Sebastian, when you got out of your car, you took a look in the cockpit of the other cars. Were you looking for any kind of new engine mapping or new innovation?
SV: No, you obviously can’t see much. I was having a look at the steering wheels of the other cars. There are no secrets but maybe there is something you can learn, so that’s why I had a look.
