To be fair Trailer - CHT's picture looks a lot more real and the MRF one looks photoshopped

siskue - Do you seriously think it is OK for sports commentators to not be at the event they are commentating on?

A number of broadcasters (not just BBC) pay Bernie a hefty fee for track access.

Well, for the past 15 years ...i have watched F1 without any commentators at the circuit
they sit in their studio and commentate.....i have never felt the difference
Both in Asia and when i was in US for few years.
Its just that you guys are pampered up with Martin, Murray and co at every circuit.

The ammount of fuel the cars will have on board at the start of the race will be arround 137kg giing by Williams fuel figures. Every car will have arround 5 laps of fuel save somewhere to get the car to the end of the race, making it the 6th most severe for fuel save laps for the season so far.

Siskue as you're in India I'm assuming you go by the Star Sports feed.

While I would also like to have commentators who can see the track and give additional insight (it's raining! Richard's gone wide! Siskue's engine sounds croaky!) it actually is perfectly acceptable to listen to the commentators that don't have that luxury. They're still reporting what they're seeing - just without that slight bit of insight.

I heard stories that the initial commentary boxes were retrofitted to be hospitality areas for the promoters...

James Allen reckons 2.65kg/lap actually - ESP do you have a link to your Williams data source?

exactly, which is why they should have better. How it is, they are paying a huge fee but getting the same as if they stayed in the UK.

Id take my data off WIlliams before James Allen to have a more relyable figure, even if it is a little more conservitive.

Buddh isnt as bad as Malasia, China or Silverstone where the fuel save is 6 laps at full fuel save mode.

I couldn't imagine any sport on TV when the commentators could not see the live action.

A commentator who watches the sport is completely different to one in a studio telling what is on the screen. I can see what is on the screen thank you, I want commentators to give me the broader context.

For example we often get commentary on who is stopping in the pits even when it is not on screen. In the last race "I can see both Red Bull and McLaren getting ready in the pits, does this mean Hamilton and Webber will pit together?" was a crucial moment.

Obviously the commentators can't see the whole track. in field sports they can see the whole playing area and can tell you that long on has moved in closer to catch the reverse sweep as Kumar bowls to Pieterson... and he's caught him! The trap worked! Meanwhile a commentator watching the screen would say "where did he come from? Wasn't he at long on a moment ago?"

Back to topic - I hope Bernie has a strop and gets them moved, I bet the Germans won't be happy either, I think their track commentary team is as big as the BBC. Also the BBC commentary feed is used in quite a few other countries apparently.

ps Power cuts are a bigger concern, there were two at the media centre today, don't know if they affected the wider track or just that bundling. Hopefully race control and the garages will have a better back up system than the media centre!

Williams reckons 2.7kg/lap; which is similar to James Allen's. But how do you come in at 137kg? That's only worth 50.7 laps (137/2.7).

I am pleased it has decent elevation change. Another complication for set-up & possible shuffling of the usual order.
