If Mercedes openly say that they did not use DRS to set a time then maybe they used DRS in their constant speed lapd/aero test to have an idea how much they gain.

Maybe they meant he did not use DRS in his quick laps. I dont know,why would they flat out lie like that??

fair point - maybe they want to know the lift and drag figures; with and without DRS activation, at a set speed; to calibrate their CFD/windtunnel

Trying to send positive vibes back to Stuttgart? I don't know. What's even more suspicious is that they don't just say he didn't use DRS, they feel the need to tell us that it's worth a second a lap and therefore Schumacher could have been a second a lap faster.

edit: saying that, I think it is normal to not use the DRS on medium stints at this stage. It just messes with the times and the car feedback.

It does not matter. You know testing means --- right??? MSC's long runs on the Mediums & Hard over a 8-10 lap stint was Very Good & encouraging. This is a brand new car & track temperatures are cold,it will rubber even more & Soft tyres & an empty tank can mean a MUCH QUICKER TIME.

A 1-24-1 is a Fantastic Time for Mediums on the 1st Testing Day.

TESTING TIMES mean ---. Maybe this is the first year you are checking testing so regularly. But I generally did not tend to follow testing times very regularly but I made an exception last year as I had huge hopes of the WO2. And let me tell you they dont mean anything.

A Carteham can beat a RBR. If they run a hard tyre it can be 1.5s slower than the soft,there is 6-7s difference empty & full Fuel tanks. DRS + KERS counts for 1-1.5s off depending on the track. And then it depends on setups & how hard they are pushing.
