Am I right in saying this is only the thrid race for that gearbox and therefore any change would result in a penalty?

That was not a race unit. Ferrari can replace that gearbox without penalty.

Yep, a gearbox has to last 5 consecutive events. With respect to gearboxes an event consists of P3, qualifying and the race.

I am praying for this, Monza and perhaps Singapur are the only tracks where he can win in normal conditions.

Singapore won't suit the Merc – 1) it's hot 2) it's all traction & turning at the same time. I'd expect to see RBR and Lotus do well there.

They're due to bring a rather large upgrade, difficult to say at this point.

I still don't understand Why Red Bull is running a short Gearing Gearbox ...In the fastest circuit of the calendar ( They don't have EBD anymore they should Forget about Downforce and put a longer 7th Gear , this might help them from getting Murdered on the starights..

Because they have to choose a selection of gears at the start of the year, and they'll have chosen relatively low ones in order to play to their strengths, rather than comprimising their strengths just to still lose at monza.
