For me the most impressive thing was that it was back to back fast laps with no cool down lap between them. Part of that is the tyres are too hard for the circuit, but with more time on the clock could he have gone that extra tenth quicker? He really pushed Vettel hard and for me that was more about the driver than the car.

You wonder if Alonso's got the new parts and Massa hasn't, and Massa's car is faster. More parts that don't work as expected? Or Massa's late-braking style working for him to build temp?

I think it has to do with the fact that everybody feels that Alonso deserves the title this year.

1. Was MAL overconditioning or on a bad set of tyres or is he just a lousy paydriver? (overconditioning and to many errors)
2. Has Ferrari verschlimmbessert their car? (It now suits Massa.)
3. Will VET get a penalty? (I think no.)
4. Will HAM'S car break tommorow? (I think yes!)
5. Can GRO win this GP? (maybe)
6. Is ALO desperate now? (yes)
7. Can MAL avoid crash in T1 with ALO? (maybe)
8. Will MAS retire to help ALO? (maybe nor nessescary)
9. Will there be a SC? (yes)
10. Is this the end? (we will see)
Finishing races is important, but racing is more important.

I also thought about Ferrari taking the risk and put all new stuff on Fred's car and prey it will work...

McLaren have to ask themsyelves who out of of Button and Perez are going to be able to do this for them in the next few years.
this is true. Perez 0.8 slower than in FP3. Maybe he should fire his race engineer. And Pirelli has to make tyres with a larger window.
Perez has been flattered by the tyres this year. Early on when he looked like the next big thing, he was just a good driver who was able to get more out of the tyres through being smooth and gentle with them when other drivers were struggling to keep the tyres in their operating window. Had they all been running on Bridgestone tyres, for example, then I don't think he would have caught anyones eye as he would have just been another mid pack runner. Now the teams have managed to get on top of the Pirellis, and they have been tending to bring their harder compounds to the races, we see Perez's advantage wiped out and he looks average again.

Next year McLaren have a good shot at starting with the best car, given the little tweaks to the rules taking away Red Bull's advantages. But that's going to be squandered on two driver's who whilst good, are simply not of quite the calibre as Hamilton, Alonso and to an ever so slightly lesser extent Vettel.

to be fair Vettel has made a good job, too. But Hamilton had the most impressiv lap. Alonso had a mistake at the second last lap. So he had to do his time on the last run

As a team vs team basis I would agree with you, but on a driver vs driver basis...just no

I can't say I'm a huge Alonso fan either but I'm getting bored of Vettel. Pole, yomp away at the start, yawn!
