Rosberg won with just one win in a sad season with the loss off Villeneuve , Pironis careeer ending clash and a team Ferrari winning the constructors comprehensively with 3 different drivers scoring race wins for them..not forgetting the loss of Paletti who died crashing into the stalled Ferrari of Pironi at the start in Montreal ironically the first time he had qualified for the race (in Imola he was allowed to race only due to the boycott of the garagistes..)Red Schneider wrote:A little trivia question.
Let's say Hamilton wins from Alonso, with Vettel crashing. That makes Alonso champion with three race wins on the year. Sometimes a lot of talk is made about 'beaten champions,' i.e. when the driver with the most wins does not win the title. However, in a case such as this there would actually be two drivers with more wins than the champion. Hamilton 5, Vettel 5, and Alonso 3.
Has this ever happened before?
A moot point IMO. The WDC is a championship between driver+car packages. Car reliability doesn't come into how well a driver drove. Agreed. But car speed doesn't either.beelsebob wrote:Notably they're competing for the World Driver's Championship, not the World Constructor's Championship, so no, I feel fine in saying hamilton deserves it more, because car reliability doesn't come into how well a driver drove.
I think it's best to wait for teams decisions in this matter. Driver of the year chosen by the teams, right? Probably the only valid information on that matter...raymondu999 wrote:A moot point IMO. hi, right now it is not raining however its windy and 18 celsius !! Light rain during this last night, streets are still wet !! Yesterday after rain, it was very hot and Interlagos track was quickly dry again, it wont happen today. I expect rain from start to finish line !
There are many reasons, including it being the World Driver's Championship and not the World Driver and Car Combination Championship. Then there is the fact that it's supposed to be a sport and the drivers are the sportsmen. Plus we always talk about how good older generation drivers were, and reminisce about their heroic performances. We talk in terms of drivers battling through the field, drivers pulling off overtaking manoeuvres, drivers making mistakes, drivers putting the car on pole, etc.andartop wrote:Why do we need some sort of "formal" confirmation of who is the best driver?
