Lotus E21 Renault

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

It's been a long time since we drove last time, but it has also been a short time at the same time

Rivals now suspect that Lotus has an advantage in the tire life department due to the fact that Pirelli has ran with an older Renault.

Grumpy people.

They said the same about McMerc having advantage since McLaren Technologies builds the ECU.

If that's the case, maybe they should have given a test mule to Pirelli.

I'm sure there's some advantage, but I'm not sure how much. The inevitable result of any tire development based upon one car above all others is that whoever knows the most about the car used also knows the most about the tires it produced. I think that much is simple.

The R30 sucked, though. So, what does one take from it? It was also an obsolete testbed - in fact, one could probably argue it was obsolete straight out of the box. Lastly, only Pirelli knows what was tested and how, and that's the real goldmine.

Although it is their car and they were the only ones willing to give one when Pirelli was asking up and down the grid for a slightly newer single seater, Lotus does not have any access whatsoever to tire testing information and any complaints regarding this situation would be silly.
