I know; if that message was coming from Pirelli I would just look up to the air again with a smile like "this again...". But it gets worse when people actually start to believe it isn't unsafe. I'm actually suprised bhallg2k said that; normally he has a lot more sence then that (or was it sarcasm, bhallg2k?).

Yeah, I probably should have put that bit in quotation marks or something. Hembery's been reciting the "it just looks different" line since the first instance of a spectacular "puncture."

On a personal note, I think my mistake here is that I've tried to make sense of it. That was just silly, and I should have known better. They don't call it "the circus" for nothing.

Now, if you'll excuse me, I've gotta take a Pirelli.

Can someone provide a link where FIA has declared the Pirelli tires unsafe ?

Until Pirelli came around I have never heard of driving to a delta time (could be wrong).

Yes, and i never understood why bridgestone were out ? it was their decision or FIA decided to go with another one...never understood

Am i wrong, or FIA is the only one who can decide that the tires are safe or unsafe ?

I take it you mean for purposes of the veto exemption clause.

If Pirelli thinks the tires are unsafe no rule or contract will force them to race them

Except that they publicly stated they aren't unsafe. They are of course unsafe, and Pirelli saying what they say is pure damage-control, but if they put it down on safety it might create a jurdical sh*tstorm with their own public statements being used against them.

My theory:
Tyre specifications will be determined by the FIA no later than 1 September of the previous season. Once determined in this way, the specification of the tyres will not be changed during the Championship season without the agreement of all competing teams.
The part highlighted in the quoted rule is amibigious. Is somewhere stated in rules what the "specification" means in concrete terms? Pirelli might say "we didn't altered the specification. We just made some minor alteration to the tyres, without changing the specification of them."

FIA is not able and it is not their task to specify compounds and construction. The rule in my understanding refers to basic specs like rim diameter, outside diameter, width, depth of thread.
So it seems to me some people are reading too much into it. If it was so strict and comprehensive the tyre supplier shouldn't be allowed even to determine compound pairs for each track at their own discretion.

So the Tires are safe, and the changes are not for safety purpose. That's all i wanted to know

The way I see the tyre situation is that teams have to not be selfish and think about the fans. You pay hundreds of pounds to see the worlds fastest cars going all out and racing, not to watch cars save tyres. So if any teams block the move I think this is not for the good of the sport.

It's happened at every race for decades for fuel saving. Ever car will turn down the engine power during the race because the cars are under fuelled, in extreme cases the drivers are asked to short shift as well.

So, you have an eye to visually discern when a car goes flat out or saves tyres?
