McLaren MP4-29 Mercedes

What?

Do you mean they have some kind of gurney attached to the hot air exits? If yes, then well spotted, haven't realized it's there up until now...

I thought cars had to have a starter motor this year?

With the weight penalty, I doubt it. I guess it's possible they are using the ERS motor to start the engine?

The MGU-K is plenty powerful enough to start the engine. So thats what I thought as well.

I don't think they'll miss out on the start motor hole; it's an obvious aero benefit.

It looks like the body work is bend up on the edge...

look at ziotures lower pic, it's not just bend upwards, there's also a gurney on the inner side

I don't find any clue why not to use MGU-K as engine starter.

5.20 Starting the engine :
A supplementary device temporarily connected to the car may be(not "must be") used to start the engine both on the grid and in the pits.

A technical explanation of the nolders at the back of the mp4-29, altough is in italian.

http://www.omnicorse.it/magazine/34840/ ... arua-calda
