Comments on german websites (news, sports, and motorsports) are full of them, they'll come here sooner or later, as well as those who will try to prove that Rosberg is really really unlucky compared to Lewis

I think when Nico has another back of the grid start and another DNF they are even on the luck.

Now that the championship is wide open again here´s some outcomes,

Hamilton wins the next four races, Rosberg comes home 2nd.
Rosberg wins Abu Dhabi and Hamilton only needs to take a 5th place in the race to win by 1 point.

Hamilton wins the next three races, Rosberg wins the 4th.
Rosberg wins Abu Dhabi and Hamilton needs to come home in 2nd to win by 3 points.

Hamilton wins the next two races, Rosberg the two after that, both come second in their teammates wins.
Whoever wins Abu Dhabi is champion.

Kinda hoping they win two each. It will be the best finale in F1 history if they have no issues and start on the front row literally fighting for the championship.

Yup.
However, their rather fragile (yet undeniably super fast) ride doesn't make me too optimistic-

I dont think so it will be the best finale because this race is between team mates with 2 superior cars and a abnormal double point finale.

I did briefly have the "I wonder if Toto is behind this" thought but I don't think so anymore than I think Toto was behind Hamilton's Aussie electrical issues. It's not in Mercedes's interests to have a car fail to finish.

Now Bernie - I can see him wanting this. Lot's of intrigue to keep the media going

It'll be a big issue precisely because there are two drivers in the same superior car and each will be free to fight and free to win. Winner takes all. Something we haven't seen in F1 for some years, sadly.

The double points thing is a pain, however.

Safety car screwed up both Ferrari and RBR strategy.
Actually, the SC was the only thing which gave them half a chance to beat Mercedes.

The race was very boring UNTIL the safety car came out, because then it really opened up the opportunity to go to the end on the softs, and with tyres falling apart, it's always entertaining.

The only issue is that it took so long to clear a small amount of debris on the track. What ever happened to large broomsticks?

WCC battle.

Mercedes needs 24 more points and they will have locked up the championship.
So basically it will happen in Suzuka given a normal race weekend.

With regards to Rosberg's problems, Toto said it was a wiring loom in the steering column that had become damaged.

The question I have, is that this failure seemed pretty catastrophic, and the car as far as we know was faultless in Qualifying. It was in parc ferme overnight... so what's happened?

The only thing I cant think is the wiring was showing signs of fatigue, and when Nico took it out to the grid, it finally failed. It did appear to be an intermittent failure at first, progressing in to a complete failure at the first pit stop.

That's not quite true. The gap is currently 174 points. Right now there are 215 points to play for. They could score 25 points in Suzuka with a 3rd and a 5th with Red Bull scoring the full 43 and the championship would still be open. Assuming Red Bull gets 1-2 every race from now, Merc needs 41 points to win the championship by virtue of winning more races.

After Suzuka there will be 172 points available to constructors. So as long as Merc avoid dropping 3 points or more to Red Bull they will wrap up the championship there.

Maybe Nico is to agressive on the steering. To make matters worse he love to fiddle a bit too much with the steering mounted controls. It is not too hard to see how the wires became worn after the sort of rough treatment he gives.
