wow
I think we have champion this season in Mercedes again.
And he didn't pit after 3 laps...omg Mercedes what kind of beast have you build! :o :o   6 lap run on mediums and still a 1.24.584....And we have a WINNER =D>
indeed we have.
Hard to judge. Looks very strong, but the wind died down, which is a big factor here, 4th day running with lots of rubber on track etc. Still, I don't see anyone today who has done something like that. They all have the chance....

I guess you're talking about this

LAP TIMES BOTTAS
Valtteri Bottas has done a longer run on the hard tyre. His lap times: 1:28.3, 1:29.5, 1:29.1, 1:29.3, 1:30.4, 1:29.9, 1:30.8, 1:36.5, 1:29.9 and 1:30.1.

16:38 Rosberg's gone even quicker.
He sets a personal-best middle sector and then is purple in the final third of the lap.
He stays second but his laptime is now 1m24.321s. If that's on the mediums, it's effectively 1.8s faster than Grosjean's Lotus on super-softs.

wow, really wow.

No I am talking about this:
15:48 Bottas returns to the track in the Williams. We'd expect an improvement if it was anyone else, but this team has been a pain to read all week.
15:50 Very, very minor improvement from Bottas. He takes 0.007s off his previous best.
17:03 - Bottas is lapping on the hard compound tyre as he has been for such of today. It means he's bottom of the timesheet but consistently in the 1m29s
16:08 1m29s laps for our three on-track runners – Kvyat; Nasr; Bottas.
16:27 We've got Grosjean back on track, just as Bottas pits having beaten Rosberg's lap tally. Can you see this, Mercedes? Send him back out.

6 lap run on medium and doing 1.24.321. The other fast laps were set on softer tires and shorter run ( 3 lap run).

Irvine:"If you don't have a good car you can't win it, unless you are Michael or Senna. Lots of guys won in Adrian Newey's cars, big deal. Adrian is the real genius out there, there is Senna, there is Michael and there is Newey. They were the three great talents."

So what was grosjean's fastest time on mediums? That might give a sign of the difference between them and super soft

Not saying it's not impressive, but if any other car did exactly the same thing, they'd be cries of 'only testing, we don't know what everyone else is doing '.

No qualy type runs on mediums, closest comparison was 1:24,6x on softs so tyres scaled as expected 0,6 between S and SS. Mediums another 0,6-0,8-1,0 s (anyone?). Let me calculate it, yes, Merc is gazillion of tenths ahead, I mean a lot.

Well Kimi found another six tenths or so between medium and soft.

But no, whilst it has always been likely that Mercedes were still fastest, you can't calculate that they're a 'gazillion' miles ahead - just as we didn't know when others were going fast, we still don't know precisely what fuels loads or settings the teams are running.

Mercedes are unreal. 1.2 secs faster than last years p1 time, on 6 lap old mediums.

Bet they were not on empty or 100% power or fully setup for a 'qualy lap' - speaks volumes

Pretty ominous

I'd like to repeat that: let's not feed into one sensational bit of information. It only shows us that Mercedes hasn't been pushing that hard in general, but the other teams also might have more flesh on them than what catches the eye.

What we can safely say is that F1 general has made a big leap forward in performance. I'd guess minimal 2 seconds a lap.

Been looking for a good F1 forum- looks like I found it!

Just seen the Rosberg 1.24.3 on mediums...that looks very ominous on paper. Do we think they will have a big advantage again come Melbourne?

However I'm almost certain that Williams are sangbagging and will be on the pace for Melbourne before being out developed by their works Mercedes rivals.

What do people make of McLaren Honda's relative pace (when they have made it around the track)?

But we have a benchmark of last years p1 qualy time

If merc were 1 sec faster last year, have just beaten the old p1 by 1.2 on mediums they are potentially 2.5 quicker than last year which means there is a 3.5 sec gap for the others to eat in to, i cant see them getting anywhere near!
