Ron Dennis about Alonso: I see no reason why he won't be in Australia. Final verdict left to doctors.

For the record and with the mclaren pers conference in mind, any official information on Alonso's condition or the causes of his crash will be temporarily allowed here. However, we can't allow discussion around that. The seperate thread for that had to be temporarily closed due it spinned out of control due wild speculation. We'll reopen it after a cool down period, at which point discussion, hopefully a bit more logical and reasonable, about it can continue.

So I repeat: official info on the Alonso crash allowed, but refrain from argueing about it. This is after all the test thread, which should be about the current test and not about whether or not Mclaren is telling is the full truth.

Anyone know why Bahrain was scrapped this year for testing? This seemed to go down really well last year, perfect temperatures for tyres and next to no chance of rain, what more could Pirelli and the teams want.

I believe the costs were an issue.

So Mclaren held a press-conference about Alonso's incident, but still no update on why their car is stuck in the garage yet again :?

I really don't get this.

The reliability bar should be quite high, because Mclaren should have a years worth of data that ought to have informed the development of the Honda power unit this year.

All the teams last year could have been given the benefit of the doubt, because they were effectively coming in blind. Mclaren Honda have a years worth of data - granted this is on the Mercedes engine, but it's still relevant.

They probably have performance marks, but little else. Honda rushed into this. I am not surprised at their issues. Honda didn't start PU development the same time all of the other teams did. They were a bit late. And who's to say that this newest issue wasn't an issue with the mechanics installing the unit? Either way, I'll be surprised if they finish the first race unless we see some improvement the next few days.

They are having more trouble then Red Bull last year. I don't belive that this car will do a full race in Melbourne. Maybe they should look for an external company, like Cosworth, to help them find a solution to the problema.

Out of interest I wonder if the hydraulic bit that failed is a Mclaren or Honda design? If it was an ancillary that Mclaren also designed on last year's car then there should be no excuse. However the comment about a PU change infers it is buried deep in the PU, so probably a Honda problem?
